Riot Games announce $200,000 Valorant launch tournament

To celebrate the official launch of their new tactical shooter, Valorant, Riot Games are partnering with Twitch to host a massive $200,000 tournament.

The Valorant closed beta servers will soon be switched off as the dev team make some final touches ahead of release on June 2. With a few days of thumb twiddling on the horizon, Riot have dropped an exciting announcement to boost the mood.

Twitch Rivals, who regularly host tournaments for some of the biggest titles in gaming, will be presenting the Valorant Launch Showdown.

This event will see top creators from around the world battle it out for a slice of an impressive $200,000 prize pool as well as the opportunity to count themselves among “the first global VALORANT champs”.

A winning team will be crowned from each of the key regions; North America, Europe, Brazil, LATAM, Korea and Japan.

Whilst exact dates and times are yet to be confirmed, the action is set to take place at some point during Valorant’s grand opening weekend.

Riot have been incredibly transparent about their plans for the esports side of the game, and it is awesome to see a tournament of this scale so early on. As well as good entertainment, this will also be an interesting chance for players to begin establishing themselves as future Valorant stars.
