Fortnite’s v40.20 update is now live, and it’s a pretty big one for Battle Royale, Reload, and Save The World. The update brings in Showdown Act II: The Elites, shifting the season’s rivalry into its next phase while also finally making Save the World free-to-play.
Save the World is now free-to-play
Players can now jump into the PvE mode without buying access, which includes:
- Solo or co-op missions
- Base building and defense gameplay
- Hero classes, weapons, and progression systems
Existing players also received rewards, and Founders keep their original bonuses, including V-Bucks benefits.

Showdown Act II: Jules vs Dasha
Act II of Showdown is officially underway, and this time it’s centered around Jules vs Dasha, taking the rivalry to a more focused, character-driven clash. Instead of just broad factions, this phase feels more like a direct head-to-head, with both sides unlocking new weapons, POIs, and abilities as milestones are reached.

Reload‘s New Stronghold Map
This update also includes the new Elite Stronghold Reload map, giving Reload players a fresh point of interest in the same patch.
