Last week was big for G2 Esports. They announced both their entrance into Valorant with the signing of ex CS:GO star Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas, and that they would be partnering with Red Bull to host the first ever official Riot Games Valorant tournament.
Of course, it only made sense that Mixwell would captain one of the 8 teams battling it out over a 15,000 Euro prize pool. The event played out as though its story had been written in the stars, and following a weekend filled with action, excitement and aces, Team Mixwell met Team Draken in the finals.
Led by CS:GO pro William “Draken” Sundin, the opposition lineup included none other than G2 Esports founder and CEO, Carlos “Ocelot” Rodriguez. Mixwell didn’t hold back against his new boss, securing a 2-0 victory and popping off with a 30/4 Kill-Death Ratio on the second map.

Draken ended up taking MVP award, but Mixwell’s performance certainly bodes well for his future in Valorant. Although this Invitational was more of a fun first look at some of the top personalities in the EMEA region, the gameplay was still pretty high quality.
It will be exciting to see who joins Mixwell at G2 as they round out their competitive roster. One candidate seems to be David “davidp” Prins, who teamed with Mixwell this weekend and is openly looking for an organization to represent.
This was an awesome start to the Valorant Ignition Series and has the community eager for more. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long, with the debut NA tournament – The T1 x Nerd Street Gamers Valorant Showdown, just around the corner.
