Did Riot just fire Demons to the top of the metagame with their Patch 9.14 buffs?

If you haven't had too many games with Demons, or even got a win with the composition since you've started playing Teamfight Tactics, don't feel bad. The champions and synergies just haven't been that strong so far in the game's lifespan, with other synergies like Knights, Imperials, and Assassins overshadowing them across the board.

Now, Riot's tweaked changes to most of the Demons lineup is set to fire the class into the stratosphere in terms of damage, with Aatrox leading the way for the composition as it finds a new lease on life right as the title's ranked queue rolls out.

The primary challenge for Demons ahead of this patch was that they needed six on the field to activate their end-game buff. With only seven on offer, that was making things a little different for the spooky class, and many people were speccing into different builds to avoid having to put their fate in the hands of RNGesus. Demons were in a similar place to Yordles or nobles, where the whole game was decided by whether you snagged a Gnar or a Kayle from your pool or the carousel.

Now, Demons have a lot more payoff as you head down the dark road of the damage burn they offer. The end-game boost has been jacked up - 80% has been boosted to 85% - and that means that you're going to be dishing out that delicious damage late on in the game. It's a little harsh to the composition's early game, dropping the damage from 40% to 25% at first stage, and 60% to 50% at the second, but that extra 5% late game is going to be key in the final fights.

This trait boost has come alongside big stack-ups for Aatrox. He has a lower mana cost on his ultimate now and it even deals more damage. Many TFT players are stacking him will ability damage and mana items. A current potent combination is the Hextech Gunblade combined with a Spear of Shojin. This provides lots of damage and self-healing.

Elise, Evelynn, and Morganna are also chief among the buffs in Patch 9.14, giving Demons and even stronger boost earlier on. These critters make up the core of your composition until you can drop one of them to slot in an end-game Swain. Elise, in particular, is much more efficient than before. She has been converted into a one-star unit, which means there’s a lot less risk in picking her up. And her spiderlings apply the demon burn now, too.

All in all, Demons are set to explode in popularity this patch with the boosts. Next time you see an Elise or a Varus crop up early in your pick pool, grab it. It may just win you the game.
