In League of Legends, there are multiple game modes that you can enjoy either solo or with friends. These game modes can be permanent and some just come and go. All of them provide something a little bit different from the standard 5v5 format, and they all have their own special twists. While most game types take place inside the summoner rift, some, like ARAM's Howling Abyss, feature their own dedicated maps.
In 2023, the Soul Fighter event on July 20 will introduce a brand-new game mode called the Arena. Entering the Arena pits four teams of two against one another in a struggle to establish control and determine the victor. Arena, like every other game mode, will have its own unique map or maps rather.
Here’s everything you need to know about all League of Legends Arena maps.
What is League of Legends Arena
League of Legends Arena is new game mode to be released as a part of the Soul Fighter event. Its gameplay is a mix of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, allowing you to engage in battles with the aid of huge powerups called Augments. The game's initial name, "2v2v2v2," alludes to the fact that it features matches between two-player teams. Your ability to advance with your champion each round is heavily reliant on the items and augments you have at your disposal. Each round consists of both a shop and combat phase, and will occur in a small variety of maps.

Interestingly, the new game will utilize five maps for both phases. Each map has a distinct layout, color scheme and design that forms a resemblance to any of the four regions in the world of runettera; Ionia, Shurima, Noxus and Freljord. Just like in any other map in League of Legends, there will be terrains, blastcones, and a newly-introduced plant called as Power Flower, scattered around the map. A new terrain type called Deep Water is also added, to act as a terrain that blocks your movement but not your vision. This means that you can see what’s on the other side of it without the fog of war.
The unique structure of these maps may favor certain types of champions, but it's up to the players to take advantage of that or find a way around it.
Listed down below are the maps that are currently available in League of Legends arena.

Shop Phase
When entering a match of Arena, the players will first arrive at a four-quadrant map where the shop phase occurs. Each team will occupy every region with the shop sitting at the center. This is where players will stay to purchase items, juices or to pick their desired augments before the combat phase begins. Additionally, a target dummy will spawn for each quadrant that players can utilize to try out their skills.

After this round, participants will be transported into a random map alongside a random team.
Ionia
Ah, the First Lands. The Ionia Map is a round map with four curved terrains on its side. At the inner circle of the map, four tiny deep water terrain can also be found. In addition, two deep bushes can also be seen at the top left and bottom right of the map. This too, creates narrow spaces which highly favors melee champions.

Shurima
This map specifically resembles Shurima with its desert-like appearance. Inside the map, there exists three deep terrain with only two bushes around the center of the map. Compared to the rest, the Shurima map is quite spacious making it ideal for both ranged and melee champions.

Noxus
The Noxus Map on the other hand has its dark and menacing features involving infernal-like terrains and multiple flame-red crystal structures that will act as obstacles. In between the curved terrains lies a large area of bush where players can hide in. On the other hand, there is a deep water terrain in the shape of a tear just at the center of the map. Without a doubt, this map is a nightmare to ranged champions due to the narrow pathways that it formed and a huge advantage to champions who highly benefit from bushes. Sounds like Rengar’s playground, huh?

Freljord
The last one in the list is the Freljord map. Freljord map will certainly remind you of the howling abyss or the Winter Summoner’s Rift. It bears a winter-map appearance covered with lots of terrain to play around.

That’s everything you need to know about the existing maps in League of Legends Arena. The upcoming game mode is currently out in the PBE, and will soon arrive in the live servers on July 20, 2023.
