Valorant patch 1.08: Map randomization, Raze nerf & more

Despite being a little lighter than previous updates, the 1.08 patch brings one or two major changes.

After being delayed for 24 hours whilst the developers made some finishing touches, the latest Valorant build is now being rolled out to players.

This one isn’t quite as beefy as 1.07, as Riot say they want to “take some time to better understand the impact of our changes”. Raze’s Blast Pack has taken a bit of a hit, whilst the Guardian has become a bit more viable.

Perhaps most excitingly of all, the devs have responded to complaints from the community about the map picking system. Many fans reported being given the same map 7 or 8 times in a row, which can understandably suck the joy out of a Valorant grind.

Map rotation for all game modes has been updated to work ‘pseduo-randomly’ rather than fully random. Matchmaking will now take recently played maps into account, and aim to keep things fresh for you.

  • Matchmaking queue for all modes has been updated to measure all your recently played maps, throughout all modes, so that for any given queue you:
  • Have a better chance of playing on a map you haven’t played recently
  • Are much less likely to play on the same map several games in a row

The only agent adjustments this week aim to give enemies more counterplay opportunity against Raze’s Blast Pack ability. It should now be more obvious when there is a threat, allowing time to react accordingly.

  • Initial damage reduced to 15 with a .2 meter inner radius, falling off to 5 minimum damage
  • Once the satchel lands, it arms after .5 seconds, increasing it’s max damage to 50
  • Shooting the blast pack causes it to detonate, dealing its current damage amount
  • Satchel no longer does damage allies

Whilst Riot maintain that the Guardian should not compete directly with the Phantom or Vandal, they do want it to have a place in certain economic situations. As well as a buff to the fire rate and weapon recovery stats, patch 1.08 also reduced the price of the rifle to 2400.

  • Price reduced from 2500 >>> 2400
  • Improved Rate of fire from 4.75 >>> 5.25 RPS (rounds per second)
  • Improved weapon recovery from .35 after 3 bullets to .2925 after 3 bullets

  • Full screen blind for observers can be turned back on in the options, for all you masochists
  • Minimap performance improvements
  • The social panel will now pause sorting while you’re hovering or interacting with it
  • Updated verbiage in the All Ranks modal in the Career page to be more consistent with Competitive overtime rules
