T1 parts ways with crashies and food

Two key members of the T1 roster leave as Valorant player shuffles continue.

With orgs investing in Valorant esports so early on, many of the teams formed were inevitably going to fall apart.

The Sentinels recent triumph in the Pop Flash event marked the end of the Ignition Series for North America. With no major tournaments scheduled in the near future, now seems the perfect time to experiment with new line-ups.

In what to many fans was a surprising turn of events, T1 announced on Thursday that they would be saying goodbye to Victor “food” Wong and Austin “crashies” Roberts.

Interestingly, in crashies own exit tweet he stated, “Very hard to step down but felt like it was needed with the way the team was headed”. Whether the pair were dropped or left of their own accord remains unknown.

As to the reasoning behind the split, there are a couple of theories. It seems that over time, star man Braxton “brax” Pierce has started to prefer playing in a similar role and with the same agents as crashies.

The departure of food however, is a little more of a shock. His performance especially in the earlier stages of competitions has been impressive, regularly dropping high kill games and clutching up for the team.

Potentially, last month’s DM drama could have something to do with it. A conversation between crashies and food was accidentally leaked on stream in which they complained that teammate Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham was not pulling his weight.

Shortly after the incident described above, Skadoodle revealed that he would be temporarily stepping down in order to increase his agent pool and overall impact. He is now back practicing with T1 and looks likely to remain a part of the roster going forward.

As for food and crashies, they should have no shortage of offers from new organisations. They are both top tier pros and the question is more about where they will feel comfortable.

With 100 Thieves still on the hunt for the right people to join captain Spencer “Hiko” Martin and recent signing Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella, there is a chance that the two duos will come together.

Expect plenty more switch ups over the next few weeks as teams try to lock down the best group of players possible. By the time the next official Valorant event comes around, things may well be looking completely different.
