New Valorant agent, ranked mode and cosmetic details confirmed after playtest

As predicted by the community, a Valorant playtest event went ahead this past weekend. Top content creators got their hands on the game and have revealed some brand-new info!

Thanks to the guys over at Dot Esports, eager Valorant fans finally have some exciting news to enjoy. Following a closed alpha playtest, multiple people have spoken about what they discovered when trying out the upcoming shooter.

You can read the full Dot Esports article here, or continue below for a quick summary:

New Agent

A previously unknown character by the name of Breach was available to playtesters this weekend. Unlike the other agents, who are mostly considered to be pretty well balanced, Breach’s powers made him way too strong.

Whilst the Aftershock, Flashpoint and Fault Line abilities focus around temporarily disorienting enemies, much like Flashbang and Stun Grenades, Breach’s ultimate was the real issue. Living up to its name, Rolling Thunder dealt a devastating amount of damage to players, leaving many testers up in arms.

Ranked Playlist

This is something that the community have been desperate to learn more about, and now we know what ranked mode in Valorant will look like.

The system will function similar to the one in League of Legends, but with different rank titles. From lowest to highest, the eight ranks are named Mercenary, Soldier, Veteran, Hero, Legend, Mythic, Immortal and finally Valorant.

Excluding Valorant rank, each tier will comprise of three sub tiers for gamers to work through. The decision to stray from the standard Silver, Gold, Platinum division titles has been controversial, with some fans arguing that this is too confusing.

Cosmetics

We all want to look the part when we’re out there in the fight. Playtesters revealed that as previously suspected, there were no character skins available just yet. However, a selection of weapon skins, keychains and sprays were up for grabs.

By completing a series of agent specific contracts, players are able to unlock these weapon skins for free. No doubt they will also be purchasable with in-game currency if you want to take a short cut.

The playtest uncovered a bunch of other things which we will look at in more detail over the next few days as more information surfaces. But again, aside from the new agent seeming a bit overpowered, it sounds like the playtest was an overwhelmingly positive experience.
