New Game Mode Quick Play is Coming to League of Legends Before the End of the Year

The New Quick Play is just around the corner.

A brand-new Quick Play game mode will soon arrive later this year to replace Blind Pick, allowing players to enter the Summoner's Rift immediately without going through the tedious champion selection phase.

Outside competitive skirmishes inside the Summoner's Rift, a wide variety of game modes in League of Legends are available at your disposal. The game has Normal Blind Pick, ARAM set in Howling Abyss, and other rotating game modes such as Ultra Rapid Fire (URF), One-for-All, Nexus Blitz, and more. These modes are sure to entice beginners and casual players with their fun-oriented gameplay without putting their LP at risk. Blind Picks, however has drawn far less attention, and the players' interest in it has waned significantly since the introduction of Draft Pick. As a result, Riot is seeking a replacement for the long-established queue.

Chris Roberts, better known as "Riot Auberaun" and Producer on League of Legends' Game Loop, recently updated players on the status of the planned Quick Play feature in a Reddit thread titled "Any News on Quick Play?" He claims “We fixed the issues with the matchmaking test within a day of launching, the results were really positive after that. We were hoping to get Quick Play out before the midyear patch but weren't quite able to finish before we had to pivot to Emerald and other ranked Split 2 stuff, so we'll be picking it back up shortly and plan to get it out later this year.”

How does the League of Legends Quick Play work

In the Dev Update for March 2023, LoL’s Game Director “Riot Pupulasers” introduced Quick Play as a replacement for Blind Pick. He explained that in Quick Play, players could pick their preferred champions and jump right into the action, much like the Team Builder from when it was first released in 2014.

On his reddit account, the game director also shared more about the upcoming queue. You can start with Quick Play by picking two different champions and their roles, Zed mid or Pyke Support, for instance and you’re guaranteed to get at least one of those as you arrive.

He also reported the possibility of mirror matches where two players compete against one another while playing the same character.

Hence, unless everyone is in the same party, team planning and building up synergies before the game is out of the picture. This also goes to say that neither team will know their composition or that of the opposition before the game begins. Now, during the champion selection phase, players can play their preferred champion or try out a new one without having to adjust to their team’s needs.

While it is more likely for players to land on their desired picks, the devs also mentioned that some players might get a position they are not fond of to fill in roles with low pick rates to make queue times more reasonable.
