In a new interview with VentureBeat, Infinity Ward's Narrative Director, Taylor Kurosaki, discusses the developing storyline within Call of Duty: Warzone - the Studio's recently released, free-to-play Battle Royale title. The narrative featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Campaign mode purposefully spans across Warzone, Multiplayer, and Spec Ops; Because of this, we've yet to see the end of it.
While on the topic of what's to come in the Modern Warfare, and more specifically, Warzone universe - Taylor states that the goal is to figure out Who is behind this?, Why is this happening?, and How can we bring an end to it? When Dean Takahashi of VentureBeat refers to the world building featured in other Battle Royale titles, specifically Fortnite's extraordinary real-time in-game events, Taylor states that the team at Infinity Ward and Raven Software are working on exactly that.
Taylor Kurosaki: ...We’ve talked a lot in the past about whether games like Fortnite have a narrative. I would say yes, absolutely. I’d say Warzone does as well. But for me, it’s in a genre and a tone that I greatly prefer.
Dean Takahashi: There are things you could do with the world. I think of things that Fortnite has done, like the eclipse they had for a couple of days.
Taylor Kurosaki: That’s exactly the kind of thing that we’re working on, that we have planned. Again, it’s all going to fit into this macro that we’ve established in Modern Warfare, and that we’ve continued into Warzone. If you know who the players are in Modern Warfare, it’ll all make sense, and it’ll all feel appropriate to the universe.

While Taylor's answer is not expanded upon in detail, it's more than enough to theorize based on the current happenings within the world of Warzone. Immediately following the title's release, players discovered twelve bunkers, twenty-eight phones, and sixteen computers, all of which are interactable with varying prompts and audial tones. At the time of writing, however, these interactable parts of the environment do not appear to be more than a teaser.
Only Taylor and the teams at Infinity Ward and Raven Software known exactly what's to come, but it's pretty safe to assume that these bunkers will play a crucial role in the storyline.

The "eclipse" that Dean refers to is 'The End', a real-time event in Fortnite which concluded Season 10 of the game's first Chapter. During this event, players witnessed multiple rockets teleport throughout various rifts in the sky, causing a meteor frozen in time to enter the Zero Point. In reaction to this, the world exploded, opening a black hole and literally shutting down the entirety of Fortnite and its official social media presence for multiple days.
It's very possible that we will not see events of this magnitude in Warzone, however, it's intriguing to hear that Taylor says this is "exactly the kind of thing" that they are working on!
