With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in October of 2019, an all-new microtransaction model was introduced in the franchise. Following several years of backlash and controversy, the randomized supply drop system was replaced by bundles - a new concept for Call of Duty which is loosely based on the success of the Fortnite Item Shop. Fast forward to 2021, and Activision earning reports suggest that the new monetization model has been widely successful.
