Warzone to Integrate with Black Ops Cold War in December

The Warzone experience will evolve into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alongside the release of Season 1!

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases on Friday, November 13th with three fully-fledged and unique experiences for players; Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.

Following the 2019 release of Modern Warfare and the subsequent release of Warzone, you may be wondering what Activision's plans are for the free-to-play Battle Royale title. Thanks to a recent investors call with the publisher, we've got a timeline for Warzone's transition to Treyarch's latest title.

Black Ops Cold War Season 1

In December, Black Ops Cold War will receive an update for its first Season of content, expected to introduce all-new maps, modes, and weapons to the experience. Alongside this update, Warzone will receive a similar update which introduces Black Ops Cold War cosmetics and weaponry to the Battle Royale title. It's here that we see the beginning of a new era for Warzone as it shifts focus from Modern Warfare to a hybrid of the two primary titles.

Activision and Treyarch have yet to release further details regarding Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone's transition, however, it's safe to assume that this will be a significant change to the Warzone experience that players know and love.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Activision had this to say regarding the subject...

Starting with the first season of in-game content in December, Black Ops Cold War will be integrated into Warzone. We'll bring Black Ops Cold War characters and weapons into the free-to-play experience, along with substantial new content ensuring that Warzone remains both the terrific experience and a powerful on-ramp for the franchise's premium content.

Cross-Title Content

Once Warzone completes its integration with Black Ops Cold War, players can expect to see all of their content remain available in Warzone. This includes unlocked Weapons and Operators as well as purchased cosmetic items such as Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and so on.

Warzone will remain in the Modern Warfare engine, however, it's expected to be expanded to accommodate for the Black Ops Cold War feature set and content. Players will have access to modals to filter Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War content, as well as the ability to drop into the Battle Royale mode with content from both titles. Battle Pass and Rank progression will transfer between Warzone and the other Black Ops Cold War experiences to further unify the titles.

Given the need to maintain two separate installations for these experiences, players are encouraged to take advantage of the installation management options available within Modern Warfare and Warzone to remove unused content.

Call of Duty: Mobile

Thanks to a previously leaked job listing on the Activision website, it's known that Warzone will see a transition into the Call of Duty: Mobile experience that is exclusive to mobile devices. This subject has not been addressed by Activision at the time of writing, however, many fans are expecting an announcement following Warzone's integration with Black Ops Cold War.
