VCT LOCK//IN Day 9: Recap

Day 9 recapped!

DAY 9 of the VALORANT Champions Tour first international event in São Paulo, Brazil took place, here is a recap of all the action!

FNATIC 2-0 Sentinels

The first match of DAY Nine was between Americas and EMEA, Sentinels versus FNATIC.

The clash of titans, the giants of their respective regions and the contenders of this international event, Sentinels and FNATIC faced off. Although FNATIC Leo was absent from the stage due to testing positive for COVID, he still participated from quarantine and FNATIC still won the game.

The first map, FNATIC's map-pick, was Haven. This map was relatively short because FNATIC came in and meant business, ending the first half in a massive advantage, 9-3 scoreline. Sentinels failed to keep up with FNATIC on Haven, and we witnessed weak performances from both the young prodigy zekken and the veteran IGL depph. The first map went in FNATIC's favor after a great showing from both Alfajer and the newest addition Leo. Haven ended in 13-6.

The second map, Sentinels' map-pick, was Split. This map backfired on Sentinels because the Americas' representative failed to put a fight against FNATIC, once again, weak performances from both zekken and depph, in retrospect, it is understandable once we put FNATIC's monstrous performance into account. The first half ended in 6-6, a tie that might've looked at Sentinels' advantage at the time, but it wasn't. The second half of Split was FNATIC putting Sentinels to sleep, FNATIC went all in, Alfajer and Derke were hitting the shots of their careers and Sentinels had no answer for that. Split ended in 13-7.

Securing the win, FNATIC advance to the quarter-finals of the Omega Bracket. Their next series comes against FURIA. Ending with a loss, Sentinels will leave this competition.

Leading FNATIC stats-wise was Derke, securing a 1.37 Rating, a 302 ACS throughout the two maps and a 1.86 KD.

FURIA 2-0 T1

The first match of DAY Nine was between Americas and Pacific, FURIA versus T1.

FURIA came into this series with something to prove. The first map, T1's map-pick, was Pearl. The map-pick backfired on T1, as FURIA showed great resilience and excellent communications and highlights throughout both halves of the map. Standing from the others was FURIA's Dgzin, performing at the highest levels possible and helping FURIA close the first map in their advantage with a solid 13-7 scoreline. Dgzin went 21/13 (Kills/Deaths) in this map.

The second map, FURIA's map-pick, was Icebox. This map was controversial and held a lot of technical pauses as FURIA allegedly used a prohibited Killjoy nano-swarm.

Regardless of the technicalities, after sometime of waiting, FURIA came back in with the vengeance and put T1 on a plane back home. Ending the second map in a solid 13-5 scoreline.

Securing the win, FURIA advance to the quarter-finals of the Omega Bracket. Their next series comes against FNATIC. Ending with a loss, T1 will leave this competition.

Leading FURIA stats-wise was Mazin, securing a 1.46 Rating, a 205 ACS throughout the two maps and a 1.94 KD.
