Day 2 of the VCT 2023 LOCK//IN tournament took place today and here is a recap of all the action!
Karmine Corp 2-1 FunPlus Phoenix (FPX)
The first matchup of Day 2 of the VCT 2023 LOCK//IN tournament was between Chinese team FPX and European team Karmine Corp. The first map was Lotus, which is the first time we're seeing it being played in a VCT tournament. Karmine Corp won the first half, with an 8-4 score. They breezed through the second half as well without much trouble, winning 13-6.
The second map, Haven, looked much different. The first half was extremely back and forth with the score being tied at 6-6. However, FPX dominated in the second half, only losing two rounds, to win with a final score of 13-8.
It all came down to the last map, which was Pearl. Karmine Corp started off hot, winning six of the first nine rounds and took a lead of 7-5 after the first half. In the second half, FPX had no answer for Karmine Corp as they kept on winning round after round. The final score of the game was 13-6 in favor of Karmine Corp.
Leading Karmine Corp stats-wise was French player SHIN. He had a KDA of 57-38-19 through all three maps and went crazy in the third map with 25 kills and just 9 deaths. Leading FPX were YuChEn and Yuicaw. The former had a KDA of 40-42-20 through all maps and the latter had a KDA of 42-40-7 through all maps as well.
With the win, Karmine Corp advance to the quarterfinals of the Alpha group. Their next matchup will be against the winner of the LOUD vs Gen.G match, which is set to take place on February 15th. With the loss, this means that FPX are out of the tournament and sent home due to the single-elimination format.

DRX 2-1 BBL Esports
The second matchup of the day was between South Korean team DRX and Turkish team BBL Esports. The first map, Pearl, was an extremely easy one for DRX as they won nine rounds in the first half and then won four more straight in the second half, to win with a score of 13-3.
Things got much more interesting on the second map, which was Ascent. BBL won the first four rounds to start the game, but DRX then won the next eight. BBL came back from being down four rounds and ended up winning the game 13-11.
It all came down to the third map, which was Haven. DRX started off the first half extremely strong, winning eleven out of the twelve rounds. BBL tried to put up a fight in the second half, but unfortunately to no avail, as DRX only needed two more rounds to win the game. The final score was 13-7.
Leading DRX was Rb, who had a KDA of 48-32-22 through all three maps. On the other side, leading BBL in stats was QutionerX, who posted a stat line of 51-52-7 through all the maps.
With the win, DRX now advance to the quarterfinals of the Alpha group. Their next matchup will be against Cloud9 on February 18th. With the loss, this unfortunately means that BBL Esports are out of the tournament.

Cloud9 2-0 Paper Rex
The final matchup of Day 2 was North American team Cloud9 against APAC team Paper Rex. The first map was Lotus. Cloud9 won the first half with a score of 7-5 and they continued winning rounds. The final score of the game was 13-8.
Cloud9 absolutely destroyed Paper Rex on the second map, which was Pearl. They won ten rounds in the first half, to go up with a score of 10-2. Paper Rex won the first two rounds of the second half, but Cloud9 rebounded quickly by winning three more rounds and winning the game. The final score was 13-4.
Leading Cloud9 were leaf and Xeppaa. The former had a combined KDA of 38-20-12 and the latter had a KDA of 42-22-13 as well as an insane ace and clutch in the second map. Leading Paper Rex was Jinggg, who had a KDA of 27-29-8 through both maps.
With the win, Cloud9 advance to the Alpha bracket quarterfinals where they will face off against DRX on February 18th. With the loss, this unfortunately means that Paper Rex are out of the tournament and will be sent home.

Tomorrow will feature three matchups - Evil Geniuses vs Team Heretics, Talon Esports vs MIBR, and LOUD vs Gen.G Esports.
