Riot Games Announces Serious Changes to EMEA Challengers Ascension Format

EMEA Ascension format changes and more.

Challengers Ascension tournament is a much anticipated tournament for the talents left off franchising and tier two talents as well. It offers a path to Riot Games' partnership, as the winning team of this tournament is granted a spot in its respective region VCT league. This tournament provides exciting opportunities for emerging teams to make a name for themselves and become tier one material in the process.

Riot Games announced on their website that EMEA's Challengers Ascension Tournament will undergo a few changes following the start of Challengers EMEA Split two in all European regions.

VALORANT developers are introducing "PLAY-INS" to Challengers Ascension, it would be a tournament before the actual Ascension tournament that grants an extra spot in Ascension, making it ten teams in total competing instead of fine. PLAY-INS are designed for the teams which finish second in their respective Challengers league to fight it tooth and nail for the extra spot.

Once a team wins PLAY-INS, the team will be joining the other nine teams in Ascension and that tournament kicks off, allowing the teams to battle it out for a spot in Riot Games' partnership list.

ASCENSION FORMAT

The group stage of the Ascension tournament will see two groups of five teams each, those teams will compete in a best of three single round-robin matches. The top two teams from each group earns qualification to the next stage of the tournament.

The next stage of the tournament will feature a double elimination bracket. At the start, teams will be competing in a best of three, however, the lower bracket final and grand final will both be best of five matches.

At the time of writing, Ascension tournament date remains unknown, however, the article continued to tease that the developers will be sharing more details in the near future.
