Touted to be one of the biggest games of the next few years, Riot Games’ new tactical shooter, Valorant, recently released exclusively on PC. The launch has left many console players feeling like they are missing out, but there is still hope for the future.
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Valorant’s Executive Producer, Anna Donlon discussed the plans for a potential port to other platforms. The key concern is that the gameplay may not feel quite the same on console.
Donlon explained, “We are definitely prototyping that right now… But there’s a way to play this game and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console play”. Of course, the fact that the majority of PlayStation and Xbox players use a controller rather than keyboard and mouse will be a huge factor here.

Competitive integrity has been the focus for Valorant since day one, and the developers are committed to maintaining this. The question looms, if a console version were to release, would lobbies be cross-platform, or completely separate?
Concluding the conversation, Donlon said “It’s not a no, for sure”, but added, “It definitely wasn’t the focus out of the gate. If we were to do it, it’ll definitely be delayed”.
With both Sony and Microsoft set to drop their next-gen consoles later in the year, perhaps we will one day get to try out Valorant on the PS5.
