With fans getting to test a total of ten characters during the closed beta, the developers confirmed that one more agent would be arriving at launch. We now know that the missing piece to this puzzle is Mexican Duelist, Reyna.
Reyna’s abilities are almost purely designed for fragging out and clutching up. When she kills an enemy, they will drop a “Soul Orb” on their body, these Orbs have a couple of interesting uses.
Firstly, Reyna can absorb the life from Soul Orbs that she has collected, allowing her to heal back to full HP. Alternatively, her Signature Ability lets her harness the power of Soul Orbs to become temporarily invulnerable to incoming damage. Note that, whilst in this invulnerable state, Reyna is unable to use her weapon.
The buyable ‘Blinding’ ability will see Reyna cast an Orb which will blind any nearby enemies. Opponents will still be able to see the sphere and destroying it will lift the blinding effect. In the right situations, this could be a quick way to pick up one or two very easy kills.

Finally, Reyna’s Ultimate Ability gives a massive boost to her slaying power. She temporarily benefits from a faster rate of fire, quicker reloading, reduced recoil, as well as an enhancement to her Soul Orb skills.
Whilst at first glance Reyna may seem insanely powerful, Valorant’s Character Design Lead, Ryan “Morello” Scott clarified that it’s not that simple. Following the release of Reyna’s gameplay trailer, Morello tweeted, “Reyna has the potential to pop-off like no one else, avoiding being traded on or healing so you have to beat her square-up each time. If she doesn’t get kills, though, she’s BAD”.
So, if you’re thinking about becoming a Reyna main, you need to be winning those gunfights. Her abilities don’t offer much to your team tactically, so it’s all about getting that numbers advantage. With only a few more days to wait until launch, we will see soon enough how she fares in-game.
