3 Basic tips to do better as a team in Valorant

If you’re struggling to rank up, or simply looking to win more matches, these three beginner level Valorant tips will help your team find more success.

As we creep past the one month anniversary of the Valorant closed beta, some players are having trouble with winning consistently. Whether you’re queuing with friends, or solo in game chat, this is a team game, and proper organisation goes a long way.

So without further ado, here are three fundamental ideas to keep in mind every match:

Strategic Spike planting

This concept is nothing new, and will be familiar to those who have previously played games which involve attacking and defending a bomb site. When planting the Spike, ensure that you position it in a spot which allows your team to cover all angles.

Whilst it may feel safer to plant behind cover, remember that you are also affording your opponents that same luxury. Instead, have your team cover the planter and put it somewhere that will be easy to watch. Communicate with your squad to ensure that no one can go for a sneaky diffuse without being spotted.

Play for skill orbs

If utilised correctly, the various skill orbs located around the map can be game changing. Don’t ignore them and don’t go for them without a plan. These orbs put you closer to unlocking those powerful ultimate abilities, and ults can literally win rounds.

As a team, decide who’s ultimate will be most useful, and help that player to collect the orbs. The spots are regularly contested, so make sure not to go alone, and don’t be afraid to invest other utility into getting them before your opponents.

Numbers count

This is another one relevant to any team game, but yet so often neglected. If you find yourself at a numbers advantage, i.e. more players alive than the other team, don’t waste it. We’ve all been there; it’s a 3 vs 1 situation, seems like the round is in the bag, but one by one everyone gets picked off and suddenly it’s a loss.

Again, this just comes down to communication. Rather than aimlessly running round a corner and being caught out by a camping enemy, take a teammate with you and trade the kill. Stay close together, keep talking and you can secure some easy rounds.

For some people these ideas may seem incredibly obvious, but you’d be surprised how many players forget them. Even those with a tonne of experience can get lazy, and make bad decisions which end up costing matches.
