With Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone on the horizon, many fans are dreading the ever-increasing installation size that's expected to accompany the latest content drop. However, Infinity Ward's Production Director has shared promising news regarding the game's storage usage, followed by a first-ever early download option for PlayStation 4 players.
Download and Installation Size
As expected, the Season 5 update will be significantly larger than previous mid-season updates for a number of reasons. While there is a plethora of new content, Paul Haile notes that, in an effort to reduce the game's overall installation size on disk, many asset packs will need to be re-downloaded in full.
It's important to note that, for example, a 20GB update does not necessarily mean that a game's installation size on your console or PC will increase by 20GB. This is due to the way in which assets are bundled into separate chunks, requiring all assets in the bundle to be re-downloaded to modify just one.
This may be a frustrating reality for those of us with limited storage space remaining on their console or PC, but it's nice to know that the studio is actively working on decreasing their title's 200GB storage footprint.
hey all - season 5 is coming soon, and its big. with the update we're including all the new content for the season as well as optimizing our asset packs.

Early Download
If you're a player with a less than stellar internet connection, or you just can't wait to drop into the new Season, Infinity Ward is now allowing many players to preload the Season 5 update, less than 48 hours before its intended release. At the time of writing, this capability is only available on PlayStation 4 and has not become available to all players on the platform. There's currently no guarantee that you will be included in this unfamiliar practice.
If you are one of the lucky players, you can download the Version 1.24 update at roughly 36GB. Once it is downloaded, the update cannot be installed until the Season 5 release on Tuesday, August 4th at 11PM PT.
