How to Enable Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU for Fortnite

How to Enable Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU for Fortnite

To maintain a fair play environment, Epic Games is expanding its anti-cheat requirements. Starting February 19, players participating in tournaments must have three specific hardware security features enabled: Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU.

If you’re running a modern PC (especially one Windows 11-compatible), you likely already have these features, they just might need to be switched on in your BIOS. Here is your guide to getting your PC ready.

What is Secure Boot and how can I enable it for Fortnite?

Secure Boot is a security feature that helps prevent malicious software from loading when a Windows PC starts up. It works by allowing only trusted, digitally signed software to run during the boot process.

Instructions on how to enable Secure Boot can be found on Microsoft's website: Windows 11 and Secure Boot

What is TPM and how can I enable it for Fortnite?

TPM is a secure hardware component. It can verify that other security settings, like Secure Boot, are enabled in a way that is very difficult for malware or cheats to tamper with.

Instructions on how to enable TPM can be found on Microsoft's website: Enable TPM 2.0 on your PC

What is IOMMU and how can I enable it for Fortnite?

IOMMU is a hardware-level security feature that helps your operating system control how hardware devices access system memory. Some competitive experiences require IOMMU to be enabled to meet security requirements.

The exact steps to enable IOMMU vary by motherboard and processor. Use the steps below to identify your system details, then follow your manufacturer’s instructions.

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type msinfo32, then press Enter.
  3. In System Summary, note the following details:
    • Your motherboard brand, which may appear as BaseBoard Manufacturer.
    • Your processor model.

      Intel users: Look for VT-d.
      AMD users: Look for IOMMU.
  4. Visit your motherboard manufacturer’s support site and follow their BIOS instructions to enable IOMMU.

Ensuring these settings are active doesn't just keep you eligible for Fortnite tournaments; it significantly hardens your PC against malware and unauthorized access.
