Fortnite v17.40 patch notes: New Exotic weapon, Coral Castle abducted & more

The Fortnite v17.40 update is now live and there’s plenty of fresh content to sink your pickaxe into. Look out for some stealthy weapon changes, an upcoming POI abduction, and even a brand-new game mode!

Burst Pulse Rifle

Speak to the Kymera NPC at Coral Castle to purchase the Exotic Burst Pulse Rifle for 500 gold. This Alien-made rifle fires two-round bursts when aiming down sights and has a bigger clip size than its standard counterpart. Think an AUG that shoots lasers…

The Burst Pulse Rifle is not currently available in competitive playlists but unlike other Exotics there is more than one for sale each match so it shouldn’t be too hard to get hold of.

Wild Weeks are back

Elsewhere on the weapon front, Wild Weeks have returned to see out Fortnite Season 7 and this first one is set to have a profound effect on the loot pool. From Thursday, Epic+ rarity Pistols and Assault Rifles, plus all Bolt-Action Sniper Rifles will be switched out for their sneakier variants.

Suppressed Pistols, Suppressed Assault Rifles and Suppressed Sniper Rifles.

Additionally, the recently added Prop-ifiers will have an increased spawn rate and more vendors around the map will begin supplying Prop Disguise services. Be careful out there, your eyes may deceive you!

A new Wild Week will begin every Thursday until the end of the season. Each one will be accompanied by a unique Legendary Quest chain to help you grind some extra XP and climb up the levels.

Coral Castle changes

It’s been well over a month now since leaks first emerged that suggested the impending destruction of Coral Castle. Yet this less than popular Point of Interest has stubbornly remained until this day.

Finally however, the Aliens have commenced their abduction of Coral. In a similar fashion to Slurpy Swamp, the process will happen gradually throughout the week, with low-gravity zones and bonus chests being an interesting byproduct.

Impostors Mode

Fancy a change of pace from the standard jump off the Battle Bus, loot up and survive saga? The new Impostors game mode has you covered!

Essentially a 3D, Fortnite version of social deduction smash Among Us, this beautifully-built LTM will have you questioning everyone.

“Ensure the safety and security of The Bridge – the IO’s top secret facility – as an IO Agent… or sabotage the Imagined Order from within as a hidden Imposter.”

Available with both public or private matchmaking, Agents must complete a series of assignments while Imposters endeavor to sabotage and eliminate them. It’s up to the good guys to discern the baddies and kick them out.
