Nvidia Reflex support now available for Valorant – reduce input lag

With the upgrade, gamers using a GeForce RTX or GeForce GTX 900 series-and-newer GPU could decrease input latency by as much as 33%.

Coinciding with the launch of the RTX 3080 graphics card on Thursday, Nvidia also released a new GeForce Game Ready Driver. The 456.38 driver includes a ton of awesome features such as ray tracing for Fortnite and Nvidia DLSS.

Most exciting for Valorant fans however, is the addition of Nvidia Reflex. This revolutionary suite of technologies is designed to “measure and reduce system latency in competitive titles”.

With the upgrade, gamers using a GeForce RTX or GeForce GTX 900 series-and-newer GPU could decrease input latency by as much as 33%. In simpler terms, this means reducing the delay between your mouse or keyboard inputs and what happens on screen.

Product Manager and Tech lead for the Gameplay Integrity team at Riot, Brent Randall, took to Reddit to offer some more insight into how Nvidia Reflex will work with Valorant.

“All players upgrade their drivers immediately and leave the setting at it’s default (On), recommended Randall. He explained that even if you don’t notice a huge improvement straight away, there aren’t really any drawbacks and it can be very helpful in graphically intense situations.

Randall also touched on the additional “Boost” setting which will keep your GPU at 100% of it’s clock speed when playing. This can further reduce input latency as it makes frame render faster.

“Boost would help the most for players with high-end GPUs that are throttling their power usage down due to Valorant only using them at 40% power for instance” he suggested. Basically, if you’re worried about your GPU’s power usage being too high or the fans being too loud, don’t use boost, but if you want the best input latency possible, give it a go.

When asked about Nvidia DLSS, which can help to accelerate performance and boost frame rates, Randall confirmed that there are currently no plans to bring this to Valorant.

So, if you haven’t already, get your driver updated and test out the new features. You may not feel the difference, but some people have had fantastic results.
