Where are Champions from in League of Legends?

There's a surprisingly rich lore behind all that beloved MOBA toxicity.

With offshoot properties like Arcane on the rise, League of Legends' (LoL's) lore is more fascinating to fans than ever. In previous years, it felt like a random add-on to a game where lore really didn't matter. But between Arcane and spin-off games like Hextech Mayhem, Song of NuNu, and Ruined King using LoL's lore to create their stories, LoL's world of Runeterra is a hot topic. But where do each of the champions actually come from?

What is Runeterra?

In the lore of LoL, Runeterra is the world where all the game's champions live. Whether we're talking about the sandy Shurima or the lush Ixtal, this island continent has a wide variety of climates, cultures, and more.

The Regions of Runeterra in League of Legends

Each champion is influenced by their respective region, and the more you know about LoL's Runeterra, every single in-game character makes a lot more sense.

This is the land of LoL's fuzzy, pixie-like Yordles. Their home is an innately magical place where non-yordles experience every sense sharper and stranger. If you check Tracker Network's LoL Global Insights, this is the home of the current S-tier champion: Rumble.
