Valorant challenges continue to irritate players

The Valorant community are less than satisfied with a certain weekly mission, and this isn’t the first time.

Daily and weekly challenges are the main way for players to earn XP and work their way through the Valorant Battle Pass. With post-match XP rewards generally being pretty low, completing these tasks is quite important, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to play.

One of the current weekly missions, which requires gamers to use their Ultimate Ability 50 times, has once again raised alarm bells amongst fans. A post about this challenge by Reddit user u/Choco320 has gained a lot of support from similarly frustrated gamers.

“Use Your Ultimate 50 Times” is way too high for a weekly mission that gives the same amount of exp as the rest from r/VALORANT

The first part of the issue is that, in comparison to other challenges, using 50 ults is way more time consuming. For some people, it is taking over double the time a weekly mission usually requires.

Why is this all such a problem? Sure, it’s just XP on the line, but some of these challenges make people play differently. In certain cases, this means grinding out a mode that they may not enjoy as much, such as Spike Rush, just to get the job done.

This choice may be down to the individual, but other negative effects of poorly designed challenges can have an impact on a whole lobby. For example, your teammates may be spamming ults at inopportune times, just to get another use ticked off.

Another previous challenge asked players to get kills whilst an ally is planting or defusing the Spike. Again, this resulted in some questionable plays, which had the potential to change the outcomes of rounds and even entire matches.

Fortunately, in this past example, Riot heard the community’s frustration and removed the challenge. This may not be necessary for the “use your Ultimate 50 times” weekly, but reducing the number required would definitely help.

It may seem like an insignificant topic to some, but having a good selection of challenges can really improve the overall player experience. The developers are always on top of this sort of thing, and as time goes on they will learn what works and what doesn’t.
