QuakeCon 2023 Returns and Will Be In-Person

Are you going to grab tickets for yourself?

After three years of online-only events, QuakeCon 2023 is returning to an in-person format! Of course, this isn't without some significant changes that attendees should be aware of. According to a blog post from event organizers Bethesda, this year's QuakeCon will focus on the "bring your own computer" (BYOC) LAN party that the convention is best-known for. This means that attendance will be limited to those who pre-register and purchase a ticket for the BYOC event. There will be no exhibit hall or free general admission, a major change from the event's format prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While this may disappoint some fans, there will still be plenty of activities for those who purchase QuakeCon 2023 tickets. The event will feature the QuakeCon Finals Party, the finale of the Quake World Championships, and the Tabletop Village. Additionally, there will be "several vendors and experiences to support the BYOC," though details about these have not yet been announced. QuakeCon 2023 will take place August 10-13 in Grapevine, Texas, with tickets set to go on sale April 21. Standard tickets will cost $75, with premium and "elite" options available for $200 and $400, respectively.

"QuakeCon is our favorite event of the year, and we can't wait to finally see our incredible QuakeCon community in-person again, celebrate games, and frag all weekend with thousands of friends," said id Software studio head Marty Stratton in a statement. "For our first year back, QuakeCon 2023 is focusing on the fan-favorite BYOC and the players that made QuakeCon the best gaming gathering for more than 25 years."

While the return to an in-person event is certainly exciting, Bethesda acknowledges that not everyone will be able to attend. To accommodate these fans, QuakeCon 2023 will feature a "full slate of programming" that will be streamed live on Twitch. A full program announcing all of the activities, features, and layout of QuakeCon 2023 will be released soon.

For fans of the event, the return to an in-person format is certainly something to look forward to. While changes to the event's format may be disappointing to some, the focus on the BYOC LAN party is sure to please many attendees. Regardless of how you plan to participate, QuakeCon 2023 is shaping up to be a great event that gamers won't want to miss.
