League of Legends Patch 13.9 is Small in Comparison for What's to Come in 13.10

The next patch will be bigger.

League of Legends is going through a lot of radical changes. In an effort to make the game more satisfying for players, both veterans and newcomers alike, Riot Games is pushing out some pretty big updates for the MOBA. Patch 13.9 is here and with it, players will see enhancements to the game. From champions to new emotes and items, here are the major updates for LoL in Patch 13.9.

What Champions are Impacted?

A vast portion of the update affects champions. While some have minor tweaks, others have received buffs to abilities and skills. The team releases what they call midscope updates to champions they feel aren't performing at their best. This could range from doing less damage or not being as competitive in matches when compared to other champions.

Neeko

Neeko's midscope update changes one of her abilities entirely. As she is a trickster champion, she has the skill to turn into another creature. While her ability worked fine before the patch, she now is able to turn into anything with a health bar. She'll also be able to maintain the new visage even if she takes damage.

Whereas her W move — which sends out a clone — has been updated so players have full control over the clone itself. This gives them the option to scout ahead and fool enemies.

Her R ability, Pop Blossom, will now hit way more often than it used to. The reason for this is that the spell wasn't seeming to connect with enemies when used. This also comes with a bit of a nerf as Neeko will no longer be granted a shield when using the spell.

Aatrox

Aatrox's passive ability, Deathbringer Stance, increased its physical damage from four percent to 10%. While his movement speed and R skill World Ender, also went up from 50/65/80% to 60/80/100%.

Amumu

Amumu is getting an increase in all damage output. His stats raised just slightly as part of his W Despair skill.

Bel'Veth

Bel'Veth gets a decrease when it comes to her overall base stats. Her attack damage growth is now at 1.5% instead of 1.7%. However, her Q skill, Void Surge, is now 140%. These changes come after it was discovered she wasn't competing as well as she should be in the jungle. As she is a jungler, the team wanted to give her more clearing power.

Jinx

Jinx attack damage growth is weaker due to the patch. As she is one of the strongest damage dealers in the game, it was decided that she needed to be slightly nerfed.

Kayle

When it comes to Kayle's E, Starfire Spellblade move, its damage has been reduced while the casting time for her R ability, Divine Judgment, has also been decreased. The AoE radius was increased, however, and her invulnerability duration was set to just 2.5 seconds.

Sion

Sion's Glory in Death ability needed to be adjusted. Players noticed it had been lasting far too long, so the team updated it to reflect its original length.

Swain

Swain's Death Hand was buffed to make him just a bit stronger. After noticing his damage wasn't quite where it should be, the team decided to beef him up just a bit.

Taliyah

For Taliyah's midscope update, the team reduced her Weaver's Wall ability which incidentally limited her ability to escape from attacks. The skill allows her to build walls around her for protection, but it ultimately did the opposite as it locked her inside her own wall. The update changes the move to activate when Taliyah takes damage.

Trundle

Trundle got an increase to attack speed and a boost in his base mana. It's been noted that he hasn't been performing well in the top lane and jungle so the team went back on an update they made in a previous patch. This raises both stats by a small portion.

Volibear

Volibear's Frenzied Maul got an increase in both damage and healing capabilities.

Items

One item got an update as well. This comes after it was noted that players aren't finding certain items as useful as they once were. With the game being online and new changes happening quite often, older items may lose their luster and require updating.

Lich Bane

While popular with players, Lich Bane wasn't getting as much use as it used to. According to Riot, the weapon's viability needed to be increased. With that being said, its ability power is now 85.

Emotes, Skins, and Chromas

The patch added several new emotes, skins, and chromas for players to collect as well. With one of the biggest additions being changes to the emote wheel, players now have nine total slots to use instead of the original five.

The following skins are also new for the patch.

  • Inkshadow Aurelion Sol
  • Inkshadow Kai'Sa
  • Inkshadow Master Yi
  • Inkshadow Udyr
  • Inkshadow Volibear
  • Inkshadow Yasuo
  • Inkshadow Yone
  • Prestige Inkshadow Yasuo

New Chromas introduced in the patch.

  • Inkshadow Aurelion Sol
  • Inkshadow Kai'Sa
  • Inkshadow Master Yi
  • Inkshadow Udyr
  • Inkshadow Volibear
  • Inkshadow Yasuo
  • Inkshadow Yone

Alongside the skins and chromas, players can choose from 13 new MSI emotes.

In-Game Player Reporting

If a player notices another breaking the rules or ones that are spreading hate whether in chat or on the microphone, players can now report during matches. This will allow players to manage their reports during a match and afterward in the post-game menu. On top of that, players will notice new mute options on a new panel through the scoreboard.

While patch 13.9 for League of Legends seems quite large, evidently patch 13.10 is going to be even bigger for the MOBA. That'll come later. If you want to check on what's happening now in the game, check out our official League of Legends stat tracker.
