VCT LOCK//IN Day 5: Recap

Day 5 recapped!

DAY 5 of the VALORANT Champions Tour first international event in São Paulo, Brazil took place, here is a recap of all the action!

DRX 2-1 Cloud9

The first match of DAY Five was between North America and Korea, Cloud9 versus DRX.

The first map, Cloud9's map-pick, was Pearl. The first half of Pearl ended in a dominant show from Cloud9 with a solid 9-3 scoreline, their team showcased a great Defence side, the C9 trio leaf, Zellsis and Xeppa headlining the first half with a great performance, however, the much anticipated Yay did not shine this half of the game. The second half of Pearl, was a continuation of dominance from Cloud9, the North American representative managed to take down the Korean team without dropping a single round in Attack side, finishing the first map in a clean sweep from Cloud9, a scoreline of 13-3.

The second map, DRX's map-pick, was Haven. The first half of Haven ended in a showcase of what DRX can do in their own playground, proving that if Cloud9 can take 9 rounds in their map pick, so can DRX, MaKo, BuZz and Zest proved to be the better trio, going into the second half with a solid 9-3 scoreline. The second half of Haven was more of the same, this half of the game shown the Korean star Stax and his skills on the Swedish agent Breach, going 10 kills, the same amount of kills that arguably the best player in the world Yay had on that half as well. DRX finished the second map in a 13-7 scoreline.

The third map, the decider, was Icebox. The first half of Icebox was a complete humiliation of the North American team Cloud9, DRX farmed this half, Stax, Rb and BuZz shining with +15 kills each whereas Cloud9 struggled to even go past 5 kills, Vanity sitting on Zero kills, the first half ended in a solid 11-1 scoreline. The second half of Icebox was a short one, DRX ended the game in a 13-2 scoreline, sending Cloud9 back home.

Securing the win, DRX advance to the finals of the Alpha group. Their next series comes against Talon Esports. Ending with a loss, Cloud9 will leave this competition.

Leading DRX stats-wise was MaKo, securing a glorious 1.28 Rating, an outstanding 234 ACS throughout the three maps and a 1.26 KD.

Talon Esports 2-0 Evil Geniuses

The second match of DAY Five was between North America and APAC, Evil Geniuses versus Talon Esports.

The first map, Evil Geniuses' map-pick, was Haven. The first half of Haven was a solid showing from the North American team, Ethan continued to shine, going 11/7 K/D the Defence side, the first half ended in a 9-3 scoreline in favour of Evil Geniuses. The second half of Haven was quite the shocker, Talon Esports managed to flip the game and make a comeback, the 9-3 curse is real! Talon Esports' GarnetS and JitBoyS did most of the work and managed to close down the North American's map-pick in their favour with a 13-11 scoreline.

The second map, Talon Esports' map-pick, was Split. The first half of Split was mediocre from the APAC representative, the North American counterpart Evil Geniuses managing to take the first half, ending with an 8-4 scoreline, with Jawgemo headlining the stats. The second half of Split was Talon Esports' playground, managing to, once again, flip the game and make a comeback! Talon Esports' GarnetS and JitBoyS rescuing the APAC representative and closing the game in a 13-10 scoreline, sending the North American team Evil Geniuses home.

Securing the win, Talon Esports advance to the finals of the Alpha group. Their next series comes against DRX. Ending with a loss, Evil Geniuses will leave this competition.
