Trainwreck Addresses Kick TOS & Warns Streamers To Behave

It Was Time To Set the Record Straight

Trainwreck went live on Friday to talk about the Kick terms of service and clear up what is and isn’t allowed on the platform.

Tyler “Trainwreck” Faraz Niknam launched streaming platform Kick as a response to what he felt were the biggest problems with rival Twitch – namely bad splits on creator pay-outs and unfair bans.

Kick has been surrounded by controversy since day one. Many fans were disappointed to learn that it was backed by crypto gambling website Stake, and labeled the operation as unsustainable.

Though it’s still in beta, people are already streaming on Kick. The obvious draw for streamers is a 95/5 split on subscription revenue, compared to Twitch’s 50/50 share.

However, recently, another selling point has been the seemingly lax terms of service. From nudity and porn to racist language, Kick’s seen it all over the past few weeks. Unsurprisingly, the chats have been equally as toxic as the broadcasts themselves.

Kick does actually have a terms of service page on its site, the rules just haven’t been enforced very strictly, and punishments haven’t been at all severe. Following a torrent of complaints on Twitter, Trainwreck went live to set things straight.

“I want it to be more free and I want there to be less restrictions, but flat-out porn/straight up nudity, this kind of stuff is not allowed” he explained. He added, “I want to crack down on hate speech” but said that certain language could be allowed if used in a legitimate educational discussion.

Trainwreck went on to call out the streamers who have been violating TOS, telling viewers “I need every creator that does come over to have a little bit of respect and not go to far”.

He also revealed that he and other Kick staff had already spoken to the likes of Heelmike and Adin Ross to tell them that their behaviour on the platform has been unacceptable.

It’s important for Kick to iron out these issues fast if they want to be able to attract sponsors and top creators to the platform. They may have already turned a lot of people off for good, so it will be interesting to see how things change in the coming weeks.
