Spike Rush: New Valorant game mode details

Here is everything you need to know about Valorant’s fast paced new playlist, Spike Rush.

Throughout the closed beta, many Valorant fans were asking for a Team Deathmatch or Free-For-All mode to be added alongside the standard plant-and-defend-the-Spike gameplay. They wanted somewhere to warm up, test out different set ups and enjoy the game without being locked in for nearly an hour.

Whilst the developer team are not quite ready to release a Deathmatch mode, they have confirmed that they have heard the demand and are working on it. However, we were treated to something new at launch, with the introduction of “Spike Rush”.

Currently in BETA, Spike Rush is like a spiced up, speedier version of Valorant. It still follows the plant-and-defend-the-Spike principles, but now every attacking player is carrying a Spike. The rounds are shorter and best of 7 rounds is the winner. This makes for exciting matches usually lasting for around 10 minutes.

In Spike Rush there is no time wasted picking guns, instead, everyone on both teams is given the same random weapon. Also, in order to further juice things up, all basic abilities are free every round and kills and deaths grant you 2 ultimate points.

Perhaps most interestingly though, this new game mode features a selection of powerup orbs. Each round, 3-5 of these special orbs will spawn in, offering players a range of handy enhancements. This includes things like increased damage output and weapon upgrades, as well as the chance to plague your enemies.

If you haven’t tried it out yet, Spike Rush is definitely worth playing. Riot Games say that they are always looking for ideas on what additional game modes to create, and listening out for feedback on the current choices.
