Are You Going to Pay Your Respects to Sonic the Hedgehog?

That's right. If you didn't hear it about it last week, our favorite blue hedgehog was murdered, and on Amy Rose's birthday no less! In this murder mystery party, its up to Sonic's friends to solve the mystery of exactly what happened.

As part of Sega's celebration of April Fools, a Sonic game was released on Steam titled The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.  The game is modeled after popular visual novels in which iconic Sonic characters make their appearance in a completely hand-drawn environment. What makes this joke even funnier is the fact that many players have regarded it as one of the better Sonic titles on PC. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog isn't even an official Team Sonic title, but it is the highest-rated Sonic game on the Steam store as well as the 62nd highest-rated game altogether. As of right now, it has over one million downloads and over 11 thousand reviews.

Considering this, it's probable that Sega will invest more time into creating Sonic adventures that go beyond their traditional development. In many cases, the Sonic franchise has proven to be capable of have diverse writing and presentation, like when the Sonic Boom show aired, or when Sonic Mania was released. Only time will tell what this small passion project will do to the future of Sonic games.
