Bjergsen Announces Retirement From League of Legends

Here's to the next adventure.

Competitive esports player Bjergsen is putting down the keyboard and mouse and stepping away from League of Legends. The 11 year pro player announced on social media he's retiring from the game officially this time around.

Bjergsen, or Søren Bjerg, is putting his decade of professional play behind him. In an eight-minute long video on his Twitter, he spoke about his decision to retire. While there wasn't one main reason, he is moving away from the esports scene to focus on himself and his family. Bjergsen stated,

"It's not about our result, it's not about the team, my teammates, the split, and definitely not about 100 Thieves. 100 Thieves has treated me very well. It's something that's been on my mind for a long time. And just more recently and throughout Spring split, it just became clearer and clearer to me that this is kind of what I wanted."

Bjergsen's Career

Bjergsen began his career as a professional League player in 2012. When he started, he was 16 years old and landed a spot with the Western Wolves team. After a few months with them, he moved on to Team-LDLC before joining the Copenhagen Wolves for a full year from 2012 to 2013. Afterward he played for Ninjas in Pyjamas, but moved to coaching the team at Team SoloMid. He joined Team Liquid as a player for one full season in 2021 before ultimately joining up with 100 Thieves in December the following year. He spent the last three months of his career with 100 Thieves.

As for the future, Bjergsen says he's not coaching, streaming, or doingg any pro level playing at all. It remains to be seen if the pro player will return to LoL or esports at all.
