In Depth Look At Destiny 2's Season Of The Chosen Trailer

A frame by frame look into the Season Of The Chosen Trailer

This morning saw the first look at Season 13 with a brand new trailer featuring Zavala and Empress Caiatl, the leader of the Cabal and daughter of Calus.

Caiatl has shown up to demand an alliance with Zavala however negotiations quickly turn sour as Caiatl asks for Zavala to “bend the knee”. With the treaty now spoiled, we have officially stepped into a war with the Cabal…. again.

Though the Cabal are a familiar enemy it is refreshing to see these Cabal will be rocking the more Leviathan styled look as opposed to the Red Legion Cabal.

The trailer stops the look into this meeting right as Zavala declines to bow so I am hoping we get to see an all-out battle featuring Zavala and Osiris when we receive the full cinematic.

With the launch of Season 13, we will be battling against Caiatl’s forces in the new Matchmade Activity Battlegrounds. As they set up what looks like battle camps across the different planets, we will be tasked with infiltrating and removing the forces from the areas. Battlegrounds will be limited to three Guardian fireteams.

We also have a new location at the Tower that will be available next season. The H.E.L.M. is located at a currently unknown section of the Tower but seems to be higher up as it has such a commanding view over the Last City.

Bungie states the H.E.L.M. is “Designed as the ultimate Vanguard staging ground, the spaceport provides the resources Guardians need to face the most powerful of incursions. Here, the War Table has been set. Meet with Zavala, acquire the Hammer of Proving, and orchestrate an honorable victory.” Will this new location be one step closer to us reinhabiting the old Tower?

The Seasonal armor is then showcased in the Trailer and it has a very clean look that fits the ornate feel to the season very well. Caiatl is an Empress after all and this armor does a fantastic job at representing the presence she will have next season.

The first image below is the Seasonal Amor with the following image being what you will receive as you rank up your Season Pass.

The Moving Fortress is our first new strike since the Glassway launched with Beyond Light. We get a glimpse of this massive Fortress in action at :53 in the trailer and though we may be fighting inside of it I hope it is moving while we do. The Location for the Fortress seems to be Nessus.

Of course, alongside this new strike we will also be receiving two original Destiny strikes, Devils Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R., as Bungie continues to add assets to unify the two titles.

There are currently two Exotics set to launch with the next season. One is a redacted Tex Mechanica Exotic while the revealed Exotic is Ticuu’s Divination. Ticuu’s Divination is an ancient weapon that is capable of charging multiple arrows to track several targets at once. This bow will be unlocked immediately for Season Pass holders or at rank 35 for free-to-play players.

Bungie continues to showcase a plethora of new weapons in the trailer and I have done my best to distinguish where these will come from:

Trials of Osiris Handcannon

Trials of Osiris Rifle (Probably Pulse)

Trials of Osiris Sword

Seasonal Rocket Launcher

Seasonal Submachine Gun

And in terms of Armor, we get a look at what appears to be a Celestial Armor set with a Hunter rocking a “Scorpion” set up and the Titan rocking a Bull / Taurus look. I was unable to get a good look at what the Warlock is wearing but all three characters have constellations shown on the fabric pieces of their armor.

At the end of the trailer we get another confrontation with Caiatl but this time Crow is by Zavala’s side rocking his new getup. It certainly seems we are going to see Crow in the Tower or some kind of Vanguard capacity with the next season.

After showcasing all of the Eververse items and different loot that will be with Season 13, the trailer gives us a glimpse into what we can expect farther down the road. We get a disturbing quick look at this creature which looks like a Screeb and a Hive Ogre combined.

Osiris gives the final line of the trailer “There’s no light here” and we get a glimpse at a floating ship stuck in orbit. There is some kind of text that is shown alongside it but I have no guesses as to what we might face aboard. It may be the scorn like pictured above or it may be an all-new threat together.

This trailer has a ton of info to unpack and you can look forward to it all kicking off on February 9th 9am PT.
