How to get the T-Hex in Teamfight Tactics (TFT)

Mix up your board with the futuristic and the Cretaceous.

Whenever a new Teamfight Tactics (TFT) set comes out, people always enjoy any  new build that spawns a cute critter. One of them in Set 9 is the T-Hex. This robotic dinosaur is a welcome friend on your board, so how do you get TFT's new T-Hex?

How does the T-Hex work?

The T-Hex is exclusive to the Piltover trait. When you have three Piltover units on the board, the T-Hex will spawn. Every time you lose a round, the T-Hex will gain a "Charge." When you win a round, those Charges convert into Power that makes the T-Hex stronger. So, this build does encourage some loss-streaks.

Different Power levels correlate to increased health, defense, attack power, and even abilities. For example, once you get level 20 power, T-Hex will now shoot out a destructive laser, eating through enemy lines.

If you want to pivot your build toward different classes and traits, you can also sell the T-Hex and any Power they have will transform into Loot.

What should you build around the T-Hex?

When looking to build the T-Hex, you have to build a base foundation of Piltover units. While you can get to six Piltover with an emblem, it's easier to just focus on getting three Piltover units so the T-Hex spawns and starts stacking Power levels. All Piltover units include:

  • Oriana (1-cost)
  • Vi (2-cost)
  • Ekko (3-cost)
  • Jayce (3-cost)
  • Heimerdinger (5-cost)

The best Piltover units are Ekko, Jayce, and Heimerdinger, but all five Piltover units are necessary to get the T-Hex on the board as early as possible and then comfortably transition your build into stronger units.

Outside of your Piltover units, though, the best traits to augment your T-Hex are Zaun and Gunner. Not only do these traits synergize nicely with your Piltover units, but also they are later-game builds, meaning that you can easily accumulate some loss-streak stacks early-on in your TFT games.
