Fortnite Is Now an Officially Recognized Olympics Esport

Let the games begin!

The first-ever Olympic eSports event will take place in June with Fortnite part of the action. The announcement, from the official Olympics website, explains the battle royale game will join other virtual sports via a shooting competition. But what exactly does that mean and how will it work?

Fortnite Sport Shooting Added to Olympic Esports Series 2023 Ā 

The top 12 Fortnite players from the Fortnite Champion Series will be competing in the Olympic Esports Series 2023. The inaugural virtual Olympics added Fortnite to the list of sports, adding sport shooting to the roster. As revealed by the post, players will test their skills in aiming and firing down the sites, just like in real-world events.

The event, which begins on June 22 in Singapore, will feature the players showcasing their expertise in an International Shooting Sport Federation Island created in Fortnite. The island is being developed to reflect the real-life equivalent of sport shooting competition.

What Events are Part of the Olympic Esports Series 2023?

With shooting now officially part of the Olympic Esports Series 2023, the total number of recognized eSports events comes to 10. The four-day event will include competitors taking part in archery, baseball, chess, cycling, dance, motorsport, sailing, taekwondo, and tennis as well.

The Olympic Esports Series 2023 was created by the Ā International Olympic Committee (IOC) alongside game publishers. The competition runs through June 25 and you can watch all of the games live on the Olympics social sites and the official website.
