Are Valorant cosmetics too expensive?

Players are unhappy with the crazy price tags associated with new Valorant bundles, but some feel that it is unlikely to change.

Alongside the Battlepass, which allows players to unlock a bunch of goodies as they gain XP, Valorant fans are also able to purchase bonus content directly from the store. In order to do so, they must first use real word currency to buy enough Valorant Points to cover the cost.

The limited time Prime Collection features stylish weapon skins for the Vandal, Classic, Spectre, Guardian and Melee Ax, as well as a spray, gun buddy and card. These items are available separately or you can grab the full bundle at a discounted price of 7100 Valorant points.

Even after purchasing the bundle, players will also need to invest a decent amount of Radianite to unlock all of the custom animations for these weapons. All in all, this can end up setting you back around $100. Pretty steep right?

Understandably, this has left many gamers who can’t justify the spend feeling disappointed and left out. Unfortunately though, as great as Riot have been at listening to community feedback for Valorant, this seems like an area in which they less likely to budge.

Here’s the issue, whilst the majority of players wouldn’t dream of regularly shelling out hundreds of dollars for a few snazzy skins that offer no gameplay advantage, a select few will always be willing. Often referred to as ‘whales’, this small group will drop enough money for it not to matter what anyone else does.

The only similar Triple-A title with more expensive cosmetics is CS:GO, but their marketplace means that skins maintain real world value, and can be sold later on. It will be interesting to see if Valorant sticks to this pricing system or offers a wider range of options to help satisfy more players.
