A New Online RPG from 'Hitman' Developers

Last week, the makers of the widely-acclaimed 'Hitman' series, IO Interactive, announced their next game in-development. Codenamed ‘Project Fantasy’, IO Interactive stated that this game will be an online fantasy RPG based on a brand new IP.

In their official blog post, IO Interactive describes Project Fantasy as a game that will “expand for many years”, meaning that this will almost definitely be a live-service game. Although they don’t state it directly, it appears that Project Fantasy will be an MMO, or possibly an MMO-lite, similar to Airship Syndicate’s upcoming online RPG, Wayfinder.

The main inspirations for this game stem back to the old “choose your own path”-style of adventure books, as well as table top role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons.

IO Interactive says that this game will be a collective effort between all of their distinct studios. At the time of the announcement, the game studio listed 16 new open positions related to Project Fantasy, ranging from Animation and Game Design, to Lead & Senior roles on the project. Project Fantasy is being developed in IOI’s state-of-the-art game engine, Glacier, for both PC and consoles.
