Tempest Rising Mirrors Classic Command and Conquer Gameplay in Multiplayer Showcase

Become the very best and conquer the battlefield.

Games like Command and Conquer really set the tone for real-time strategy games in the early 90s and 2000s. Cut to today and you'll find spiritual successor to those retro games of yesteryear in Tempest Rising. In a near 20 minute long video, the upcoming RTS showcased its multiplayer battler and things are looking quite good.

If you're a fan of C&C, then Tempest Rising may be built just for you. The showcase felt like diving back into an original copy of Command and Conquer but had the appearance, design, and all around modern feel of Command and Conquer Remastered Collection. Here's a breakdown of the multiplayer footage.

All about that Base

Each player stars off with a base to protect. It's here that players will build units, buildings, and prepare their defenses when the inevitable attack occurs. Buildings include Refineries, Power Plants, and other various locations to train units and build vehicles.

In order to construct buildings, get units, and build defenses, you'll need resources. They come in the form of Tempest, red glowing veins of material that are harvested by the Refinery's Harvester. Once the machine successfully harvests a vein, it will return to the Refinery to deposit it, granting you valuable resources to spend on what you see fit.

Once you have collected enough Tempest, you'll be able to build a unit or building to grow your army and outfit your base.

Units and Vehicles

Each players starts out with a small force they can lead and use to search the map. From there, once you've gained the necessary resources, you'll be able to create more units and vehicles to fight for you.

The multiplayer video showed off a few units you'll have at your disposal. Of the ones we noticed in the footage, you'll train soldiers with various uses and weapons. There was a Drone Operator with a scout drone they can use to unveil a small section of the battlefield.

When it comes to vehicles, the video featured the most recognizable military unit on the battlefield: the tank. Known as the Hunter Tank, it's outfitted with a large barrel that fires explosive rounds at enemy units. Whereas the Sentinel is an anti-air and anti-infantry scouting unit with a secondary weapon to mark enemy units.

Those are the ground units, but the showcase also included a look at turrets and stationary units. One such buildable defense is called the Sensor Array. It is a large turret that uses Tempest as a power source to fire at enemies and detect stealth units. By using a red cone effect, it is able to scan in front of to find units and lay waste to them.

The goal of multiplayer is to defeat the enemy opponent. This is done by destroying their main base to ensure they are unable to build.
