Resident Evil 4 Remake Is the Second Fastest-Selling Game in Series’ History

Revisiting Leon's iconic adventure has been a massive success.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake is continuing to see big success. Since its launch, the game has sold over four million copies and became the second fastest-selling game in the series within two weeks. The only Resident Evil to sell that many copies in a shorter time frame is Resident Evil 6, which did it in a day.

Considering the vast difference in critical reception between titles, Resident Evil 4 Remake is expected to overtake RE6's sales by some point. While that game had a huge burst of sales right away, it was poorly received by virtually everyone, killing off its long-term potential. Resident Evil 4 Remake is the opposite, where just about everyone loves it, calling it a potential Game of the Year contender for 2023.

This news comes out the same day as the free Mercenaries Mode update for the game released. Where your first experience with the game has you playing through the story as Leon to save Ashley, Mercenaries is a timed wave-based survival mode. The goal is to defeat as many enemies as possible as Leon, Luis, Krauser, or Hunk. Additionally, in a more eyebrow-raising fashion, Capcom has added new microtransactions to the game that players can buy to upgrade their weapons faster. Luckily, this is unnecessary, as you can upgrade the weapons just by playing the game.

The continued news of Resident Evil 4 Remake's success is obviously great news for Capcom, who has been on a great string of making popular Resident Evil games. Between the remade games bringing back the early 2000s memories people were clamoring for, and the newer titles like Resident Evil 7 embracing the first-person horror perspective, there is a lot to love about these adventures lately.
