PUBG: Battlegrounds Aims To Curb Team Killing by Enforcing Stricter Penalties on Players Who Do So

Bring on the banhammer.

Team killing is a dirty thing to do in any video game and it's just outright mean. PUBG already has measures in place to ensure anyone who does team kill intentionally gets penalized. However, in the 6th Anniversary PUBG Dev Talk, developers say they are working on enforcing stricter regulations.

The talk, which you can watch on the game's official YouTube channel, covered the future of the game, presented a 2023 roadmap, and allowed the team to answer player questions as well. Yet, even with it being 90 minutes long, there were many unanswered questions, as to which were later answered through a blog post.

One such question was in regard to measures being used to permanently ban or restrict players from entering Duo or Squad matches if they killed their teammates on purpose. In response, the head of anti-cheat, Sangwan Kim, said the team is looking into it. To be precise, Kim said while they are already implementing penalties for team killing, they are looking at additional ways to reinforce them. They plan on working with the necessary teams to ensure the additional penalties are set up properly.

On top of that, Kim says you can check a player's team killing history but only during a game. The team is also looking at allowing players to see another's team kill history while they wait for a match to begin at the starting island.

As for what the extra penalties would be, is unknown. Players have been dealing with team killers for several years now and they are frustrated by it. In the official Rules of Conduct for PUBG, section eight is titled: Do Not Team Kill. It states that killing team members is prohibited due to it obstructing the flow of the game. Obviously, those are simple rules and not something that is implemented into the mechanics of the game.

It will be interesting to see what PUBG is planning on doing to put an end to team killing. Perhaps banning players who continuously do so is in the works, but that remains to be seen.
