Overwatch Director's Take Shows First Look at Flashpoint Map, New Hero Update, and Balance Changes

The power of the sun in the palm of her hand.

Overwatch 2 is getting new content this summer with one of the biggest changes in the history of the series. While the game may be going through a difficult time due to controversy about getting rid of the game's major PVE storyline, Blizzard is working to add more to the shooter throughout the year. Flashpoint is one such addition that will bring a new map to the game. We got to learn more about that map plus details on balance changes, and a look at the upcoming hero. Here's what you need to know from the Director's Take.

What Will the New Flashpoint Map Look Like?

The upcoming map called Suravasa is a large square area that contains a jungle temple, market, and a square. The first look at the upcoming map isn't a detailed 3D image, but rather a rough drawing that's just meant to show the general layout and appearance of it. You'll see a river that runs between the map, but the final version will not have the river at all. There are also two locations for both the red team spawn and the blue team spawn at opposite ends of the map: one in the south and one in the north. The team wanted to make sure the map was as symmetrical as it could be, therefore capture points mirror one another. For instance, point B reflects point E and so on and so forth.

During the Flashpoint stream, game director Aaron Keller, who also wrote the Director's Take, said points would be selected randomly but that's no longer the case. Now, the fist objective will always be the central one.

What Balance Changes are Coming to Overwatch 2?

The mid-season patch will see changes to a few Overwatch heroes. The game gets regular updates to balance characters and maps to ensure players get the most out of each match of Overwatch. As it's always online, the developers are constantly buffing or nerfing items and heroes as needed.

Torbjorn and Symmetra

Power is being reduced for both character's turrets. However, it will shift to the rest of their builds increasing other abilities.

Sojourn

  • Sojourn's Railgun primary fire spread will be improved

Reinhardt and Orisa

Both will see increases to front-line capabilities

Zenyatta

  • Minor adjustments are being made to reduce Zenyatta's Discord Orb ability

What was Revealed for the New Hero?

All Keller revealed about the new hero was a picture. The image shows her taking part in what's being referred to as a Solar Threading Ritual. With the word solar and the picture itself representing the sun, it's more apparent the new hero will relate to the sun or bright light in one way or another.

Players saw a glimpse of the upcoming hero in early June. While very little is known about her, the internet is crafty and took her silhouette featured in the Invasion trailer and enhanced the video to see more details. Keller says many people have guessed a lot of correct details about her but they aren't ready to release more information on her at this time.
