Overwatch 2 Invasion: What is it, How to Play, and Release Date

Overwatch is kicking season 6 off in a major way with the release of Overwatch 2: Invasion. The update launching the same day the sixth season begins introduces several new features for the online team shooter. You can expect to see brand new PvE story missions, co-op events, PvP content, and a brand new Hero Mastery mode. Here's everything coming with Invasion.

What is the Release Date for Overwatch 2: Invasion?

Overwatch 2: Invasion is releasing on August 10 alongside the launch of season 6. The update will see plenty of new content for the shooter and is being called the biggest update of all time for Overwatch 2.

What are Story Missions in Overwatch 2: Invasion?

With larger more in-depth single-player content being cut from Overwatch 2, the game will still have smaller story-based missions. The first story mission will see you fight against Null Sector and the Omnics, a race of sentient machines.

You'll be able to go in with friends and form a group online to complete each mission. Instead of battling other players as you would in a normal match, you'll instead face off against computer-controlled enemies as you attempt to complete the mission. You'll be able to pick from a list of Overwatch 2 characters who are linked to the story in one way or another. Invasion will feature three story missions in total at launch.

What Co-op Events are in Overwatch 2: Invasion?

Alongside story missions, you can team up in a new co-op mission on Kings Row. Here you'll be able to explore the map and visit all new areas never before seen in regular match types. Your mission is to guide the TS-1 push bot to rescue Tracer's friend and the Omnic Underworld from Null Sector enemies.

What is Overwatch 2: Invasion Flashpoint?

Joining the PvE game modes will be the PvP mode Flashpoint. In this match, you'll fight other players to gain control of key locations across the map. These areas are known as Flashpoints and you'll need to capture three of them in order to win the game. Imagine a game of king of the hill but you'll need to be quick in order to maintain all three areas at once. The new core game mode introduces two brand-new maps as well. It can be selected through either the Quick Play or Competitive Play screen.

What is the Overwatch 2: Invasion Hero Mastery Mode?

The Hero Mastery mode allows you to level up your skills with Overwatch characters. It's a training course you'll be able to run through with your favorite hero or one you're testing out. Courses are designed to test your skills with hero abilities and weapons and each one includes its own leaderboard so you can see where you stand against the competition. Invasion will launch with a number of courses built for specific heroes with more maps will release later on.
