MultiVersus has been pulled from digital stores before its incoming shutdown

New players have to wait a long time before they can get in.

Getting ready for the impending shutdown coming in the future, MultiVersus has been pulled from digital stores. From now on, new players can not download the game until it fully launches in 2024. Additionally, the microtransaction Gleamium has been taken down for people still playing the MultiVersus beta.

While newcomers cannot try the game until next year, if you already had the game downloaded and played it, you can access it and play online until the shutdown happens on June 25. Until then, your current reserves of Gleamium can be used to purchase various characters or unlocks, but you can’t gather more from purchasing them.

With MultiVersus on track to be completely inaccessible for at least half a year, it makes sense for the game not to take people’s money toward microtransactions anymore. That won’t likely make anyone who already spent money on the game feel better, but it is needed for now.

The whole situation surrounding MultiVersus is very odd. The game has been taking money from its players who choose to spend, even when not fully released, after being active for less than a year. From what we have seen, there is no indication of WB offering any refunds to players, as they consider the game’s full release next year to still give you access to that content, just not in the meantime. It is new ground for live service games to travel into that hopefully won’t be repeated any time soon by other games, as it is definitely a messy situation for the MultiVersus community.

How MultiVersus has handled its beta can be seen as very tumultuous. It started very popularly before losing a large chunk of its player base quickly. The recently announced shutdown is a hard pill to swallow since we don’t know what changes are being made before it reopens. Hopefully, the development team can provide more answers sooner rather than later.
