Improved Pacing, Combat and Movement Mechanics: What to Expect from Call of Duty Season 03

May the best person win.

Call of Duty Warzone is preparing to release Season 03, and with it comes a host of new updates and features for the game's Battle Royale mode. Developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software have listened carefully to player feedback and have reviewed trends in Battle Royale pacing, leading them to make several changes to the game's mechanics.

One of the biggest changes is to the core pacing of the game, and the developers have worked to strike a delicate balance between downtime for looting and loadout acquisition and the highs of combat and engagements. To achieve this balance, they've made improvements to variables like time-to-kill, weapon damage, armor values, movement mechanics, and defensive tools. The adjustments made to these elements were carefully evaluated, considering the impact they have on the entire Battle Royale experience.

Season 03 introduces several updates to improve pacing, such as a reduced delay time between circles closing towards the mid-game, the addition of more Ammo Caches and Buy Stations in areas to support regain in the late-game, and the inclusion of UAV Towers to provide intel and encourage more combat engagement opportunities.

Players can also expect to see changes to Combat Engagements, including reduced intensity of damage feedback on the HUD to better improve combat visibility and reduced high-damage weapon outliers to make combat feel more consistent. The One-Hit-Down Snipers, which were tested in the Saint Patrick's Day Event, are also being added to create added variety in combat playstyles. Bolt-action snipers equipped with Explosive Ammunition will be able to down enemies with one skill shot. Additionally, a number of equipment and killstreak rebalances are coming to this season, including a Bomb Drone update.

To improve movement and traversal, the game will now feel more dynamic and fluid due in part to improvements to mantling over objects or through windows, with slight adjustments to sliding and diving responsiveness, and the addition of Redeploy Drones to better enable rotation opportunities.

Lastly, Infinity Ward and Raven Software have made quality of life improvements to the game. Among the vast array of improvements are the inclusion of elevation arrows on the Tac Map to help players better locate objects and the "Incoming Killstreak" banner has been raised to sit further from the aiming reticule to offer cleaner sightlines.

Looking ahead, the developers are planning to share more information on Massive Resurgence, Plunder, Warzone Ranked, and more in-season content in the coming weeks. The teams at Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, High Moon Studios, Beenox, Demonware, and Activision are working hard to bring players the best that Call of Duty has to offer. Season 03 is just around the corner, and players can expect to see these exciting new changes and updates soon.
