From the makers of the indie classic, Hyper Light Drifter, comes a new 3-D multiplayer Action Roguelike game, Hyper Light Breaker. While Hyper Light Breaker definitely shares in the mood and futuristic aesthetic of its predecessor, the game is also attempting to achieve the ambitious goal of becoming the first procedurally generated, open-world Roguelike.
In Hyper Light Breaker players will be able to choose from a variety of different character classes which have unique abilities and playstyles. Players will also be able to customize their preferred weapon loadout within the main shared hub, before venturing out into one of five (so far) procedurally generated biomes.
Players will be able to traverse levels in several ways, such as using a hoverboard, a glider, or jumping & mantling to solve platforming puzzles. Each zone of Hyper Light Breaker will feature a day/night cycle, which will hint to the player the enemy difficulty level within the zone at any given time. The more time that a player spends in one specific zone, the more likely they are to run into more difficult enemies.
Once a player chooses to enter a biome, they will be able to fight enemies, farm resources, and activate Beacons. Once enough Beacons have been activated, the biome’s special Boss Room will become available for players to enter. Fighting against these bosses will be the main way that players will be able enhance their characters, as well as progress the main storyline of the game. Every time a player enters a biome, they will be rewarded with some currency and materials that they will be able to use to upgrade their weapons. Even when players die, they will still retain at least some of the materials that they earned during each playthrough.
Hyper Light Breaker is still a few months away from Early Access launch, and is expected to be available to play sometime during the Fall of 2023. While Hyper Light Breaker is currently only listed as being available on Steam, Hyper Light Drifter also released exclusively for PC, but was later available on console as well.
