Guide: How To Complete Grandmaster Devil's Lair In Destiny 2

Sepiks Prime Is Back Again

Grandmasters are finally back and the season kicks of with a familiar original Destiny strike, Devils Lair. Revisiting this strike with Champions has been exhilarating for me personally and fighting through the hordes of enemies to the music just brings back so many memories.

If you are looking to jump into this Grandmaster here is what you can expect.

Nightfall: The Ordeal - Devil’s Lair

Modifiers:

  • Arach-NO! - When defeated, Fallen Vandals spawn a web mine at their feet.
  • Champions: Overload - This mode contains Overload Champions, which cannot be stopped without an Overload mod.
  • Champions: Barrier - This mode contains Barrier Champions, which cannot be stopped without an Anti-Barrier mod.
  • Chaff - Radar is disabled.
  • Match Game - Enemy shields are highly resistant to all unmatched elemental damage.
  • Equipment Locked
  • Extinguish - If your Fireteam falls in a restricted zone, your team is returned to Orbit.
  • Limited Revives - Gain additional revives by defeating Champions.
  • Champions Mob - This mode contains additional Champions.
  • Sepiks Gave - Incoming Arc and splash damage increased.

Classes:

If you are looking to get throught his strike as safely and easily as possible you are going to want:

2x Middle Tree Void Titans with Ursa Exotic Arms / 1x Middle Tree Solar Warlock with Pheonix Protocol Exotic Chest

Other combinations that will work:

2x Middle Tree Void Titans with Ursa Exotic Arms / 1x Bottom Tree Void Hunter with Omnioculus Exotic Chest

2x Middle Tree Solar Warlock with Pheonix Protocol Exotic Chest / 1x Bottom Tree Void Hunter with Omnioculus Exotic Chest

Ultimately for this strike, you are going to want survivability and the Banner Shield from the Titan will be able to take explosives from the Brigs, Walker and Champions which will prove to be quite useful in clutch moments. I will say though that a skilled team will be able to get through this strike quite easily no matter the subclasses.

Weapons:

Le Monarque - This is by far one of the most surprising weapons I have ran in a Grandmaster. The poison will actually continuously keep the Overload Champions stunned and even prevent them from teleporting. It is very easy to solo take down and Overload Champion with this underrated bow. Plus it comes in handy for the Servitors at the end.

Anarchy - Is it really a Grandmaster if you arent running Anarchy? I recommend 1-2 of these per team to make sure you can do consistent damage while taking cover during fights.

Borealis - If you find your team can not find a good balance between energy types feel free to run this Sniper. The new animation speeds up the damage type change alot and breaking all the different types of shields activates the perk Ionic Return. Ionic Return will buff damage and return one bullet to the Magazine when you break an enemy shield that matches Borealis’s current damage type.

Divinity - If Bows are not your thing Divinity will be your best shot at not having to run an SMG for Overload. It will also help if your team is not the best at sniping as it will provide that glorious crit bubble for everyone to fire on.

Armor and Weapon Mods:

For the best results run Anti Barrier Sniper and Overload Bow. Depending on how skilled your Overload user is you can really get by with only one Overload Mod on the fireteam. This will allow for everyone to run Anti Barrier Snipers as well as a couple of Anti Barrier Scout Rifle mods to keep those pesky shields down.

Arc Resistance, Concussive Dampener, and Sniper Resistance will all come in handy so make sure you have at least one to two of these mods on your armor.

Sundering Glare is a new Mod on the artifact that will come in handy during the Walker fight it will help boost damage while fighting from afar.

Sniper Rifle Scavenger and Reserves will be critical to making sure you stay ahead on the ammo economy for this strike.

Strategy:

Spawn -

Once you spawn in you are able to hop on your Sparrow and head straight to the end of the battleground but make sure you take the far left or right path. If Sparrowing through hordes of fighting enemies isn’t your tactic you can use your Invis Hunter to sneak past everything as well.

After you make it to the end you will have a safe room to pick out and fight the Overload Champion here.

Hallway -

This Hallway will have one Anti Barrier Knight alongside a wave of Acolytes and Thrall. Fight off the Acolytes and make sure to not let the Thrall swarm you or you will be wiped before you can react. Use Snipers or Anarchy to get the Anti Barrier to throw up his shield and quickly stun it to finish it off.

Pre-Scan Room -

This room provides a ton of cover as you approach up to a Wizard and Overload Champion. My best advice is to use a Banner Shield here to soak up the fire from the Wizard and eliminate it first from the doorway on the left. After it is exterminated fight off the Overload Champion with a similar strategy before you come out of the room.

Scan Room -

There are a few ways to do this room but sadly the old D1 strategy isn’t the way. Leave one person at the scannable while the other two Guardians run back to where the Wizard and Overload Captain previously were.

Start the scan and get ready as waves of enemies will start pouring out from the doors on the right side of the arena. You will have to kill every enemy to advance to the next stage. Use your supers generously to keep the enemies under control and try no to stray too far from that original safe area.

The game music does a fantastic job of alerting you when the next wave of enemies will begin pouring in, the more it picks up the more you can expect to fight.

Walker Arena -

This is the most intense part of the strike and if you can get past it, it is all uphill from here.

Immediately have a Banner Shield or Well placed before you walk out of the room. Fight the Barrier Servitor from inside so it can not shield all of the snipers and Dregs firing on you. Quickly pick off the snipers on top of the room and across the arena on the right.

After doing this clear out the Dregs and head to the small yellow building to the left of where you came out. Clear out all of the enemies there and get ready as the Brigs and Walker will now be dropped into the fight. If you don’t see them have one person slowly move up until the Skiff shows up to drop them off.

Once landed take out the Brig on the left first from atop the building. Use Supers, Snipers, whatever it takes to get it down fast. Immediately move to the area you came in at and fight the Brig on the right. Once it is down head back to the yellow building you killed the first Brig at and take down the Walker. Stay as far back as you can and fight. The Walker will not target you as long as you are back far enough. Utilize snipers and take turns sending one person slightly forward to place Anarchy on the Walker.

After the Walker is defeated try to single out the Overload Champions the best you can. As soon as you can isolate the Barrier Servitor do so and take it down so it can not protect any other enemies.

Pre - Sepiks

As the doors open up you will be faced with two Overload Champions, make sure you have a Banner Shield or Well to take incoming fire while you stun and melt the Champions and enemies down. Once you do so the Sepiks fight is going to immediately start so make sure you are prepared as you fire the last shot.

Sepiks Fight

This is where any D1 Veteran will start to chuckle because just like before you are going to take this whole fight from the building on the left. As long as you do not leave this area you are going to get through the Sepiks fight very easily. You can however go down the stairs and take quick shots from the underground area but do not stay down there for an extended amount of time because enemies will jump down there to engage you.

After you clear the first wave of Servitors sent to defend Sepiks you will be faced with two Overload Champions. These two will teleport all around the field and honestly just be patient. They will come in front of the windows eventually and you will be able to take them down as a team safely.

Once they are exterminated take down the Servitors and Sepiks and enjoy your new loot!

Possible Loot -

The Swarm (Adept) Arc Machine Gun

Adept Mods - You can earn any previously unearned Adept Mod as well as the new “Big One Spec” which provides a 7-8% Damage Boost against enemies.

Exotic Gear

Enhancement Prisms

Ascendant Shards
