Destiny 2 Europa map guide: new locations, vendors, Lost Sectors, and region chests

The new Destination Europa is loaded with secrets for Guardians to uncover.

With the release of Beyond Light comes a new destination for Guardians to explore. This new location is the icy moon of Jupiter known as Europa and it is home to all manner of dark secrets that players must uncover to gain new powers and new loot.

New Locations

There are 5 main areas of Europa that Guardians will be able to tackle tough new challenges in and also a few secondary areas. The main locations, and their official descriptions, are as follows:

Charon’s Crossing - “The side of Europa’s communication center and the origin of a distress signal sent by Variks”. This location acts as a sort of hub for Europa as this is where the planetary vendor, Variks, is located and where all other locations can be accessed from.

Beyond - “An old friend awaits us in this clearing that overlooks the conflict between Light and Dark. This ‘old friend’ is in fact the Exo Stranger that we first met in Destiny 1. This location is home not only to the Exo Stranger but also Eris Morn and the Drifter who are helping the Exo Stranger with uncovering the secrets of the Darkness.

Asterion Abyss - ‘The Vex structures visible on the surface are only the tip of the iceberg.”

Cadmus Ridge - “A snowy landscape and the last-known location of the buried Bray Exoscience facility.”

Eventide Ruins - “Once home to thousands of settlers, and now all that remains of Clovis Bray’s colony.”

In addition, there are several secondary areas that offshoot from these main areas. This is not to say that these areas are smaller than the main areas but that they are not public spaces and are mainly used for the new strike The Glassway as well as various story missions.

It’s also possible that an area like Bray Exoscience could be used for the start of the Deep Stone Crypt coming on the 21st of this month. These areas are still extensive but are less open than the main areas and are dead ends.

These locations are as follows:

  • Well of Infinitude
  • Glassway
  • Nexus
  • Riis Reborn
  • Riis Reborn Approach
  • Technocrat’s Iron
  • Gale’s Watch
  • Kell’s Rising
  • Bray Exoscience
  • Creation
  • Eternity

Lost Sectors

Within the mains areas of Cadmus Ridge, Eventide Ruins and Asterion Abyss are special locations known as Lost Sectors that can be completed by players. A Lost Sector is a small, and oft times, hidden area that can be found by following the special icon found on both the destination map and on structures within the game world itself.

Following this icon will lead the player to a group of enemies and a boss guarding a chest. Killing this boss will allow the player to unlock the chest and claim its rewards. This chest is guaranteed to drop at least one blue item so if you are still below the 1200 soft cap then this can be a quick source of Power. However, these Lost Sectors have a recommended Power of 1210 so try not to be too far under this, or maybe bring some friends to help you out.

  • Perdition - Located in Cadmus Ridge
  • Bunker E15 - Located in Eventide Ruins
  • Concealed Void - Located in Asterion Abyss

Vendors

There are two new vendors on Europa that will help players with quests and offer them bounties to complete, Variks the Loyal and the Exo Stranger

Variks - This Fallen scholar who once served Skolas, the former Kell of Kells, has abandoned both the Awoken and his own species in order to help the Guardians with putting a stop to Eramis and her destructive plans. Variks serves as the main guide for the player on Europa and will help with quests while also offering bounties to complete for XP.

Exo Stranger - The Exo Stranger is an enigmatic individual who we first met during Destiny 1. She is without a Ghost but is still a capable warrior in her own right and is able to wield the powers of the Darkness.

Hailing from a future where the Darkness won, the Exo Stranger is working on Europa with the Guardians, The Drifter and Eris Morn to help stop the invasion of the Pyramid ships. On Europa the Exo Stranger will act as a quest giver and help the Guardian with understanding their newfound powers of the Dark.

Region Chests

On Europa there are 9 gold Region Chests in total between Asterion Abyss, Cadmus Ridge and Eventide Ruins. These chests contain glimmer and a guaranteed Rare piece of gear so these can be quite a good source of gear before you reach the soft cap of 1200.

Asterion Abyss

1. Head towards the main Vex structures in the middle of the area. There will be a standalone spire with the chest on top. Follow the arrow in the image around to the back of the rock formation and there will be some platforms that can be used to reach the spire where the chest is located.

2. From the previous chest head north until you reach the large, open ice area. Just before the ice flats begin there will be a small dropoff into a small cave. The chest is located in this cave.

3. Head north-east from the previous chest. At the edge of the ice flat there will be a small platform just before the abyss. Here you will find the chest.

Cadmus Ridge

1. Upon entering the zone from Charon’s Crossing, hang right and jump up onto the ridge. Along the wall will be a cave with the chest being behind a boulder in this cave.

2. Upon exiting the above cave look left and you will see a large triangle-shaped ice formation. On top of this formation is the chest.

3. On the western side of Cadmus Ridge are a cluster of Golden Age structures. On top of the building leading into Bray Exoscience, towards the left side, is the last chest for Cadmus Ridge.

Eventide Ruins

1. When entering Eventide Ruins from Asterion Abyss keep right until you come across the first building. On the right side of the building will be a small, circular corridor that leads through to a broken platform. The chest is above you on a second platform. To reach it, jump out to the right on to a small platform then turn around to reach the higher platform.

2. To the south-west of the previous chest is a large open building containing lots of snow and an abundance of shipping containers. Towards the back wall is a stack of these containers with the middle one containing the golden chest.

3. This last chest is along the north-west part of Eventide Ruins. Follow the catwalks along the building to reach the chest at the end.
