Bungie continues to remain silent over last year's Solstice Armor promises

The Destiny 2 player base is outraged at Bungie over a lack of Solstice 2019 answers.

Mentioning last year’s Solstice of Heroes event is enough to reopen old wounds and stir up frustrations for much of Destiny’s playerbase.

This frustration is aimed at Bungie for what many believe to be a scam that was pulled by them during the event.

The community remained hopeful that during this year’s upcoming event Bungie would shed some light on their plans to reintroduce the previous Solstice armor or possibly reimburse players.

It appears that as of the writing of this article Bungie is remaining very tight-lipped about the matter. This obviously has left much of the player base even angrier over the whole situation, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Last year’s Solstice of Heroes event had a very similar set-up to this years where players would complete objectives in various activities to upgrade the Solstice set.

Like this year, players could also purchase armor glows for the Solstice set from the Eververse store for a large sum of either Silver or Bright Dust.

The problem with this soon arose as with the release of the Shadowkeep expansion, the upgrade to Armor 2.0 took place and the Solstice set was left in a sad state.

The set simply became obsolete when compared to armor of the 2.0 variety due to its lack of customizable mods, something which can add significant power to a piece of armor.

Bungie foresaw that Armor 2.0 would kill the Solstice set so when Shadowkeep was released anyone who owned the armor would receive a package from the Gunsmith that contained another complete set of Solstice armor that had been reworked to Armor 2.0.

Another problem quickly arose with this. This new Solstice set had extremely low stat rolls, only having a total in the mid 40’s, and also did not contain a Seasonal mod slot which removed a lot of the situational power of the armor.

So essentially after a couple weeks of play, this Solstice set was made completely redundant and unusable in high level activities.

This was made worse by the fact that the armor was not a Universal Ornament, something which was thankfully rectified with this year’s event. People had wasted both Bright Dust and Silver on this set of armor.

The community remained optimistic that they would be reimbursed over this debacle.

Surely if they had spent $45, or 18k Bright Dust, on the armor glows for 2019’s Solstice set Bungie would have something planned for them since their own choices led to the armor being sub-par?

On Thursday the Solstice of Heroes trailer and web page went live but there was nothing about what would happen to the older armor. Then the TWAB rolled around Thursday afternoon and there was still nothing.

The TWAB page on the Destiny subreddit was flooded with angry comments by players furious over the lack of answers and Bungie’s scummy way of dealing with the situation.

“Bungie for real, its time to be extremely clear about last year's glows. I dont understand why we have had to wait this long to hear about why they aren't universal ornaments and why the set we got during shadowkeep was horribly rolled and no seasonal mod slot making them effectively useless after shadowkeep launched," user ‘Envaze458’ said.

User ‘ColdAsHeaven’ puts it quite bluntly, but accurately, with the following:

  • “Bungie 2018: "Solstice!!! Give us your money for this dope stuff!!!"
  • Bungie 2019: "Solstice!! We f*cked up last year, here's how we fixed it. Money again please!!!"
  • Bungie 2020: "So we f*cked up twice in a row now. We're not fixing those. But here's how we fixed it again. Money. Screen. Throw please."

"Shout-out to everyone who got f*cked out of $45 last year. Or 18K Dust. Or combination of both," they continued. "Thanks to disingenuous wording and malicious intent on Bungie sales team.”

A post even reached the front page created by user ‘Azurephoenix99’ titled “Players who purchased glows from previous Solstices should not have to pay for the current ones”.

This post amassed almost 12k upvotes and over 900 comments echoing the thoughts of the poster.

It has become quite apparent where the community’s opinions lie. Unfortunately the only real way to get Bungie’s attention on the matter is to simply not purchase this year’s Solstice of Heroes Eververse items, including the armor glows.

It obviously sucks to have to go without some cool looking cosmetic items but it’s what needs to be done.

If you simply must have these items then do everything you can to avoid paying for them with Silver.

If you have zero Bright Dust but complete all of the Weekly Bounties on all three characters over all four weeks the event is available, you will have enough Bright Dust to buy the armor glows for all three characters before the event ends.
