All the updates & content confirmed for Season 14 of Destiny 2

Season 14 will see a lot of exciting features and content added into Destiny 2.

We are now a month into Season of the Chosen and with that comes the realisation that the next Season, Season 14, is just around the corner. The name of Season 14 has not yet been revealed by Bungie but by looking at the in-game Season page we can see that Season 13 ends, and Season 14 begins, on May 11th.

The release of information regarding Season 14 has been piecemeal over the last few months and so here is a rundown of everything to be expecting in this upcoming Season.

Transmog System - Armor Synthesis

In Season 14, Ada-1 will be returning to the Tower and will bring with her a feature that the community has been asking for almost since the first day of the original Destiny’s release in 2014. This feature, known in other popular games as transmogrification or ‘transmog’, will be called ‘Armor Synthesis’ in Destiny 2. Armor Synthesis will allow Guardians to turn any piece of armor they have unlocked in their Collections into a Universal Ornament.

At the start of Season 14, Ada-1 will offer the player a set of bounties that when completed will award the materials needed to power up Ada’s Loom, a device that is capable of creating Universal Ornaments from other armor pieces. Bungie has also stated that these materials can also be purchased at the Eververse store for Silver.

With the introduction of Armor Synthesis comes a new Appearance tab in the Character menu. From this screen the player will be able to manage all the ornaments that have currently been unlocked as well as apply shaders to not just individual armor pieces, but to all currently equipped pieces of gear with a single input. On top of this, shaders will be a permanent unlock rather than single use items like they are now.

Removal of Further Sunsetting

Season 14 will see the end of sunsetting in Destiny 2. That means that Season of the Worthy gear, like Felwinter’s Lie, that were supposed to be sunset when Season 14 launched will instead see their Infusion cap removed. This basically means that any piece of gear that has not already been sunset, will be able to be used in all Destiny 2 content for many Seasons to come.

Vault of Glass

The Destiny franchise's first ever Raid, the ‘Vault of Glass’, will be returning to the series sometime during Season 14, much to the excitement of many veteran players. Bungie has stated that the raid mechanics have undergone a few changes in order to make the experience fit the current Destiny sandbox. These changes are also aimed at keeping the raid as a worthy challenge to the increased deadliness of today’s Guardians compared to the Guardians of the past. “Our philosophy behind bringing things out of the Destiny Content Vault is to keep them feeling like the content you remember while updating them to meet Destiny 2 difficulty and raid standards,” says Assistant Game Director Joe Blackburn from a recent developer update.

In this same developer update Blackburn also announced that there would in fact be a World’s First race for Vault of Glass although it will run a little differently than normal. The usual Contest mode, which essentially caps players' Power to keep the competition even, will be active for the first 24 hours and players will need to also complete a special set of curated Triumphs. The first team to complete the raid and this list of Triumphs will be declared then winners.

Lower Power Increase

In Season 14 Bungie will be lowering the overall Power cap increase per Season from 50 to 10. This is something the community has been asking for for the past few Seasons as it can feel very repetitive to grind the same content for months at a time in order to keep up with the ever increasing Power Cap. This larger increase in Power Season to Season was seen as a way to pad out game time rather than being actual new content.

Bungie has stated the following in regards to this change: “We believe this change will make it even easier to pick up and enjoy Destiny each season.”

Stasis Updates

When Beyond Light first released in November of 2020 there was an almost immediate outcry as to how much of an unpleasant experience it was to face the new Stasis subclasses in the Crucible. Many of the core mechanics behind Stasis, such as freezing and slowing, were simply unfun to be on the receiving end of. Over the months following Beyond Light’s release Bungie has made several significant balance updates to Stasis in order to bring these subclasses inline with the other Light subclasses.

Bungie has stated that in Season 13 and 14 the team will continue to release updates to both Stasis and the traditional Light subclasses in order to strive for balance in these abilities.

As a small teaser the following changes coming in Season 13 and 14 were showing during a recent developer update:

Behemoth Titan:

  • Decrease Super damage reduction.
  • Increase Super energy cost when performing light attacks.
  • Remove freeze AOE on Super cast.
  • Reduce travelling efficacy of Shiver Strike when slowed.

Revenant Hunter:

  • Decrease Withering Blade damage and tracking.
  • Decrease slow stacks applied to targets.
  • Remove Shatterdive damage reduction.

Shadebinder Warlock:

  • Fix bug where Iceflare Bolts wouldn’t track towards targets immediately on creation.
  • Fix bug where Shadebinder Super projectiles were not tracking until a certain distance travelled.

General:

  • Decrease crystal shatter damage.

Return of Ikora Rey

Ikora Rey is one of the most powerful Guardians currently alive and it's a shame that she has been largely without use in the game since Season of the Undying in 2019.

The good news is that Bungie has announced that Ikora will be returning in the upcoming Season 14. Could she be one of the main story characters in Season 14, similar in fashion to Zavala in the current Season of the Chosen?

According to Bungie, Ikora Rey will also have a pivotal role in The Witch Queen in early 2022.

Gilded Titles Phase 2

In the current Season of the Chosen, Bungie added to Destiny 2 a way for Guardians to further show off their achievements in relation to Seals and Titles. Once a Title had been unlocked the player could complete another set of challenging Triumphs that once completed will ‘gild’ the title, giving it a new appearance.

Currently, only the ritual titles of Conqueror, Unbroken, Dredgen and Flawless can be gilded but in the upcoming Season 14 the second set of Titles will become available for gilding. No word yet on which exact Titles this will be though.

As another little bonus to Title gilding, in Season 14 a new counter will be present next to the gilded Title which shows how many times this Title has been gilded. This counter will be visible to all players in the area.

Additional Content

The above list is everything we currently know is being added to the game in Season 14. As with each new Season though you can also expect Story content, new weapons, armor, cosmetic items, Seasonal activity, new locations and possibly a new Strike/Crucible map.

Season 14 of Destiny 2 will launch on May 11.
