VCT AMERICAS PLAYOFFS DAY 5: Recap

All the action you've missed from VCT AMERICAS PLAYOFFS DAY 5

NRG Esports secured a spot in the Grand Finals of the VCT Americas League following their win over Evil Geniuses.

Here's how they did it.

NRG Esports 3-1 Evil Geniuses

A Lower Bracket Finals matchup, this was a highly anticipated matchup between NRG Esports and Evil Geniuses. These teams already faced off against each other earlier in the playoffs, with EG taking the 2-1 win there. Fast forward a few days later and both teams have already qualified to Masters Tokyo, but there was still a lot on the line for this matchup, as the winning team would take home more money at the conclusion of the playoffs.

The first map of this best of five series matchup was Haven. Evil Geniuses started out strong, winning the first two rounds of the first half. They continued to win most of the rounds and went into halftime with a 7-5 lead. EG again won the two pistol rounds to start the second half, giving them a 9-5 lead. NRG then bounced back with five straight rounds of their own, to take the lead with a score of 10-9. However, Evil Geniuses had other plans, as they then won four out of the next five rounds to win the game. The final score was 13-11.

Map two was Ascent. This time around, NRG was the team that opened the first half strong, as they won the first four rounds. EG then won two rounds, but NRG bounced back by winning another four straight rounds and going up with a score of 8-2. The score at the end of the first half was 9-3 in favor of NRG. NRG won the first three rounds of the second half, increasing their lead to 12-3. They now only needed one more round to win the map. However, EG wasn't out just yet, as they won five straight rounds. But it wasn't enough to stop NRG, as they had a monstrous lead already and only needed one more round win, which they got in the 21st round. The final score was 13-8.

The third map was Lotus. NRG again won the first two pistol rounds to start the half. This was a good sign from them. EG, however, rebounded well and won five straight rounds and now led 5-2. They added two more rounds before halftime, to go up with a score of 7-5. The second half was very different, as NRG Esports looked extremely dominant and on top of their game. They won eight rounds, while only losing three, to win the game. The final score was 13-10. What a comeback for NRG, as they now led the series 2-1 and only needed one more victory to win the series.

Split was the fourth and final map of the series. NRG looked insane in the first half, winning eleven rounds, and leading with a score of 11-1. EG stood no chance at coming back in the second half. The final score was 13-4 in favor of NRG.

Leading NRG was Victor, who had a KDA of 72-49-28 through all four maps, as well as an average ACS of 254 and an ADR of 162. Incredible stuff. On the other side, leading EG was Ethan, who had a KDA of 58-59-50 through all four maps, as well as an ACS of 215.

With the win, NRG Esports now advance to the Grand Finals, where they will face off against LOUD on May 28th.

With the loss, Evil Geniuses are eliminated from the playoffs.
