Evil Geniuses Win VCT Champions 2023

North American team Evil Geniuses are the winners of VCT Champions 2023 after their 3-1 victory over Paper Rex in the Grand Finals.

The first map in this best of five series was Split. Evil Geniuses started off the game strong, winning the first two rounds. However, Paper Rex answered back by winning eight out of the next ten rounds to lead 8-4 at halftime. The second half is where EG really got things going, as they only dropped two rounds. The final score of the game was 13-10 in favor of EG, with them pulling off the comeback.

With Evil Geniuses now leading the series 1-0, the second map was Ascent. Paper Rex got off to a hot start, winning five of the first seven rounds and going up 5-2. Evil Geniuses then responded by winning three of the next five rounds. The score at halftime was 7-5 in favor of Paper Rex. The second half was extremely back and forth, but it was Paper Rex who were the ones that came out on top, winning 13-11.

The series was now tied 1-1, with Bind being the third map. This was by far the least close map between these two teams in recent memory. Evil Geniuses got off to a fantastic start, going up 9-3 at halftime. Paper Rex initially responded in the second half by winning the first two rounds, but EG got back on track right after that, winning four more rounds to win the game. The final score was 13-5.

With EG now leading 2-1, they needed just one more map to win Champs. Lotus was the fourth map. The first half was extremely back and forth, but ultimately Paper Rex were the ones to take the lead. The score at halftime was 7-5 in favor of them. The second half looked extremely different, as EG bounced back well and won the first four rounds. They now led 9-7. Paper Rex then won two rounds of their own, to tie the game at 9-9. Things were looking extremely close, but Evil Geniuses then won four out of the next five rounds to win the game. The final score was 13-10.

With the win, Evil Geniuses are the winners of VCT Champions 2023 and take home $1,000,000.

A huge factor for EG today was their star Duelist player, Demon1, who put up incredible stats throughout the whole tournament. The rest of EG was just as important, as clutches and insane performances from all their players led them to this point.
